How on earth can Canon UK justify the price difference?

RRP in US $7999 (approx £4000)
RRP in UK £5999

Why do we in the UK have to pay an extra £2000 for what is essentially a small electronic item?

Same story with the 1D MkIII, $4499 vs £2999

well, petrol is higher and uh, stuff, things cost more.... etc.

More likely US price is without sales tax, UK includes import/vat etc, and exchange rates at the moment make US prices look low.
