North of France

I have just driven back along the top of France from Brittany and stayed in Caen over night. This seems to be the centre of the D Day landings stuff with museums and memorials everywhere. It's also close to that 1066 tapestry which I will not try spelling ! You are also not far from Mont St Micheal which is riddled with history (although I'm not sure about modern history). Caen was also William the Conquerer's home (before he conquered obviously) and has huge cathederals and castles things throughout.
I am happy to recommend our hotel as very reasonable on all fronts.

for great photos, head to the Choas Battery, 4 massive bunkers there is a road that runs by park up and let ur car face straight to them with full beams on now walk throught the field to them (watch out for a ditch) photos you took will be very good and its quiet moving as one has taken a direct hit from some sort of battleship, there is bits of the gun all over the walls.
Arromanche beach at low tide in the dark is good too. and you can drive onto it.
