Roof down today and left car parked up.Got home this evening and the disc has gone.furious

It was the only thing not nailed down! My own fault - should have put the roof up

Some censored will probably display it and try and get away with it!

Is it against the law not to have one on display? - I need the car tomorrow

Can I get a replacement? do I have to buy a full year?
Help!!

Report theft to Police.
Contact DVLA for a replacement.

Thanks Vonhossen - reported and now await a return call and crime incident number.
The telephonist suggested I put a note in the car to effect that disc stolen/reported to police/replacement being obtained from DVLA

DVLA are open from 8am tomorrow - will contact them then.

Had same thing happen to me. DVLA very good, and TVP sent me a lovely victim of crime notice. I didn't feel that I needed help or support, but thanks for asking. Think it cost me £8 for the replacement.

I did not realise there was an exemption for not displaying a tax disc if nicked. Is the strict position not that you should have the car off public roads until you are displaying? Otherwise dependant on "common sense" being used, which seems to be increasingly a rare commodity

Punishable by fine of upto £200. Only really an issue when Ken and Chelsea's parking attendants see you.

Can't imagine that you wouldn't get it cancelled when it's been nicked.

Called DVLA - can be done by post but they suggested a visit to my local DVLA office with;

1) completed DVLA Form V20 - (duplicate vehicle licence disc application) form can be downloaded
2) my V5C (registration certificate)
3) £7 payment

The V20 gives full instructions on what to do

Meanwhile helpful PC called me back to take details of theft and gave me a crime reference number. He suggested that I quote this in need (i.e.if stopped bycop BIB). I wont be troubling any traffic wardens - enough hassle already!!

Felt guilty taking up 10mins of PC's time - am sure he had bigger crimes to solve. Hope the cheapskate thief gets stopped and processed - minimum handling stolen goods?

Will visit local DVLA with paperwork tomorrow

When this happened to me, the disc disappeared on the day I bought it...driven by the wind!

Went to local DVLA, who couldn't issue a duplicate because the Post Office document can take up to three weeks to get on the DVLA system.

DVLA gave me a letter in case I was stopped.

Finally got a duplcate.

Six weeks later, a fine for driving on Nile Street in an untaxed vehilcle drops through my letter box. I had been spotted by Mary, the traffic warden with the bionic eye, as I drove by.

It took a whole morning to convince the monkeys at my local DVLA that I ought to be let off the fine.

Q...Why did you fine me when you knew I'd asked for a duplicate and you'd given me a letter?

A...Well, we didn't know if you taxed it before that (eh? you gave me a duplicate for that period), so we faxed Swansea to send a fax of the Post Office document..

Q...And...?

A...Well, Swansea sent the fax, but it was for the wrong vehicle, so we thought we'd better send you the fine...

Q...SAY THAT AGAIN, SLOWLY...

And so it went on, and on, and on....I admire myself for refraining from strangling the idiots.

Still they wouldn't cancel the fine...they hadn't seen evidence it was taxed before Madam Warden saw you, sir.

Until I dealt the killer hand.

You see, purely by chance, my son found the original tax disc two days earlier, stamped on the first of the month, down between the passenger seat and the central tunnel...

When I slapped it on the desk, the monkeys didn't have a leg to stand on. It was now clear to them that my car had been taxed (they knew that when they issued the duplicate...grrr), and they had to cancel the fine.

They were not happy.

And neither was I.....

The people in Chelmsford DVLA were very helpful even though they were busy. took over half hour to queue but less than 5 mins to sort out at the counter. Still quicker than by post!
