Hi all,

It's numpty question time again......
I think my oil relief value spring has snapped.
Can anyone tell me how I get at it so I can check?

I'm working on the rockers, lifters and on my way to the camshaft.

I have the bonnet off at the moment but is it a big job to get to the relief valve?

If it is knackered can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement spring or refurbished pump mechanism?

Mine is a 1999 450 Serpentine

Cheers

Matt

The relief valve can be got to but is a little pain! it is on the off side of the front cover just above and round the side of the oil filter housing, it looks like a core plug about the size of a 10 pence and is held in with a circlip, when you take the circlip off make sure your head is not in line with it!! silly i know but the springs are fairly strong and you may end up with a black eye!! just out of interest i have never had one snap?.

Hi all

Thanks for the directions :-)
I think its a combination - sender - gauge and relief valve spring.

Anyone know where I can get a new spring?
Gauge is under-reading by about 7.5 or 15 psi - not entirely sure if that's the gauge or sender.

Cheers

Hi all ? Once you get the calibration bit, see what you get, my bet is all is down to the sender.

Hi David,
No idea where my 'hi all' came from earlier?! Stooooopid fingers......

This it's a sender/relief valve double whammy - I've been working on the car since 10am and can't get the relief valve out of the housing - totally wedged in. Spring is a funny length too - it's only 50MM not the 60MM it's supposed to be.

Got the sender off of my friends 450 - swapped them over and a more healthy - but still well down pressure reading.....
