How hot are your Cats ?
Discussion
After a run of about 4 miles mostly in traffic but involving a couple of overtaking blasts and a small delay for opening the bonnet and getting the thermometer from upstairs, the exhaust manifolds, just prior to the lambda sensors were both about 270c. I was pleased to find them similar temperatures and also to find the block at 90c as per the gauge.
Anybody know if 270 is within the “Normal” range. It seems to be getting unusually hot under the bonnet recently.

Cats dont even start to work until double this temp .. one of the reasons they're pretty rubbish for town centre exhast related gas reduction .. they don't get hot enogh to work. 270 would be a typical idle temp .. as GreenV8S says you'll see (at least) double these figures when under load.
