From a standing start I spin both wheels equally, however trying to get some power down in a corner I spin up the inside wheel. Is this normal ? I don’t really know how the LSD works, if there needs to be a difference between the wheel speeds for the Diff to transfer power to the other side then I guess this is normal, if not then it doesn’t work.

Doesn't seem right to me, mine never does this. Try accelerating on a patch of gras or a bit of dirt road, both wheels should spin, at least that's what mine do.

I agree in the picture it doesn’t look as if it is working, but I am told that in the tyre warming area and off the start line they both spin equally which suggests it is working. I don’t really understand how they should work. Presumably here has to be a speed differential between the driven wheels before the system can lock and drive both equally. However on the cone type unit do they actually lock or is there simply a friction coupling between the two. In which case this effect may be normal. Anybody got any suggestions how I can test it ?

I really don't know about these things, but isn't the answer it the title. . . . 'Limited' Slip Differential ?

I agree by the look of the picture it doesn't seem to work, but if it were knackered I presume the plumes of smoke would be ten times worse ?

I'm not sure if it will help much Steve, but this web page has some interesting information on how an LSD works. http://wikicars.org/en/Limited_slip_differential

Thanks Andrew, reading that it looks as if the cone type (which I think we have in our cars) only transfers a proportion of the torque, 80% or so to the non spinning wheel. In which case it may be working normally. As Jonno said, if all the horses were driving the inside wheel there may be rather more smoke. The throttle butterfly was definitely fully open at that point, and it was second gear.

On a slightly different track, looking at the mark, I wonder if slightly less camber would get more of the rubber on the road at that point, now there is an idea...

Steve,I'm no expert on how lsd's work, however we have had quite a few diff's refurbed and ratio's changed and the diff man who looks after alot of racing Holdens say's the TVR plates's are not put together as other btr diff's,(don't ask me how).
Anyway once he's finnished with them, hook up is noticeably different.
