Using a recovery truck for general Haulage.
Discussion
Yesterday I saw a Bonneted Scania pulling a low loader trailer, it had a custom red paint job with the words POPEYE and RECOVERY painted on it, it looked cool.
On the back where 2 medium sized mobile homes, neither of which had number plates on they looked brand new, my questions are, Is a recovery truck classed as general haulage transport, or as a crane on wheels, did i see a recovery firm doing someone elses job, would they be insured for general haulage because the 2 mobile homes didn't seem to bo broken down.
If a recovery truck is not classed as general haulage maybe they pay reduced road tax.
It just seemed odd.

Any vehicle licensed for Recovery pays lower vehicle excise duty, is exempt from Operator Licensing and EU Driving Regulation
So is moving brand new motor homes recovery or general haulage.
A lot of big recovery firms are taxing their recovery vehicles as goods & putting O licence's on them
It allows them to transport new vehicles, plant or anything they want
so unless you saw the taxation class on the disc we'll never know if they were doing someone else's job
BTW... A commercial vehicle of over 3.5t needs an MOT @ 12 months old

You think this is a can of worms.
Showman's vehicles is even more so.
See them on the roads, get past or hold back, whichever is appropriate.
Drove past a circus set up in C. Durham the other day. Loved the sight of all the old wagons, still working for a living... then thought I'd rather not be in the vicinity when they're on the road... Showman's vehicles is even more so.
