looking again.

Guys I've often thought about buying a Cebera and have posted here while looking. I was very close a few years ago but ended up getting a Skyline.

Anyway, I'm on the look out for a 2nd car and this was going to be for Mrs GMan so I had been looking at Elise's and S2000's. But she has since told me she is happy driving our Subaru, so I can pick the car. Result.

Anyway I've been checking out Autotrader and a mauve 4.2 at £12995 up in Scotland has caught my eye, anyone know this car? Also I don't like the wood dash, is that easy to change

Been keeping an eye on that myself, looks good but has been advertised for ages, always an ad on ebay.

As for dash there are stainless ones available on ebay also.

The more I'm looking at it, the more I'm not sure.

There seems to be a distinct lack of Cerbera's between £14-20k. A few speed 6's about, but I'd prefer the 4.2 or 4.5.

I feel I'm may have lost out here and all the good ones are being kept by their owners.

I actually went along to have a look at it. Looks really nice in the flesh. Main thing that put me off was the balshy sales-man. Bit of an arse really. Anyway, the car was originally sold by him for 10 grand, paid in full. Then the lad who bought it came back a few days later saying the clutch had failed. Now, Dicksons wont offer a warranty on TVR's, but for hatever reason he sent it off to Dreadnaughts (very experienced TVR specalists) who changed the clutch and send the car back with a letter saying how they'd never seen a clutch so abused in all their days. I think the reciept had the bill at about £1800. Anyway, the dealer has refused to give the original buyer a refund untill the car gets sold again, and now that its had this work doen on it its on sale at a higher price. The dealer alos told me he wasn't going to be that flexible on price either "this is a car that sells itself" I'm told. He was arse. he didnt seem to think that there was a problem about him holding onto the previous buyers 10k untill he waited for someone else to spend 13k on it.

To be fair, the car did look nice, though it will have been sitting about for months now which probably wont be good for it. I just felt the dealer was a prat.

I wonder what happened to the guy who was owed the money then!

I love a bit of gossip.

When I was looking a few years ago there was always a few 4.2's going with upgraded light's and with spiders for about 18k. I can't find out at the minute.

My Purple illusion one's at Ewelme at the moment having a polish, but it's going in the classifieds next week at £18750.

Blended in headlights, new style rear lights, just had 12k service & shocks & niggles(£3500)............

What about the Black red rose at £19k in the ad's. Is that not worth a look ?

I'd have preferred to have bought through the trade and got a little bit of warrenty thrown in(even if it is worthless it shut's Mrs GMan up). Going to have a look at the private ads now.

A friend you say Der... or re-adding one to the fleet yourself???

Indies are where it's at and there are a good few scattered around the country, I now use Andy @ APM and a more friendly and knowledgeable chap you would struggle find, will take on anything from basic servicing to engine rebuilds... makes it very easy.

Why buy in the trade? With a TVR it is really great to look the seller in the eye and really understand how it has been looked after. Private is best.

Given that I've just spent £2k on it, I think that's pretty reasonable.....

Der, the Jury is still out on the Six's builders, but I cant help but feel theres never been a better time for AJP cars - loads of great builders working on the engines now at some pretty reasonable prices. smile I wouldnt worry too much though, last time our Cerb was dyno'd at 20k miles it made the same power its *just* made on the original ECU chip at 72k miles - these babies are strong... oh and of course TrackCarSolutions has since liberated a few more blackpool ponies today! bounce

Out of interest, whats happened to the 993??!
