it depends entirely on the car. you might find one that is mechanically perfectly sound but at knocked down price for things like a shoddy interior and a bit of bodywork damage. both things that really dont matter in a track car.

aslong as you give the car a thorough going over you could do fine. i got my 5 for £2k. the only work i needed to do was replace the suspension (i have ofcourse spent a lot more money on other things, but that is the way of the 5). and my car is hardly shoddy.

I have just paid £1.8k for a UK 1990 Mk 1 1.6 in exactly the same colour as your for my GF. It was advertised for £2k, good history, drives ok, I am going to change all the fluids and filters beacause I know that they will have been done. Then the brakes and suspension, they are ok but want to get the car back to good as new.

I did see good ones for £1.5k but they had no history and you would have to buy on condition, I must say that we have just been out for a hoon, and the gf has driven in 4 years is loving it. What great little cars!

I just took a punt for £1700 and put £700 in with all pipes, fluids, belts, clutch, de-cat, KN filter, radio etc.

Great fun car. Owes me nothing and the day it dies will be a sad day.

I just bought one for £2.5K and spent a few bits on it.

Took me a while to find the right one. Its in prestine conditon mechanically and done about 100k miles.

My advice would be to find a Eunos Import as they are in far better condition than the UK cars and have a LSD (Most of them anyway) 120K Km on the clock is fine, they go on and on and on.......

I looked at about 6 different cars and there is certainly alot of differences in quallity, just dont buy the first one you see.

You will not regret buying one. i dirve a variety of performance cars, and the 5 is the best bit of fun for the money, you will not be disapointed if you get a gtood one.
