thinking about replacing all the clips on the hoses but will i need to drain the oil out to do all of them?
if i change the hoses for new ones probaly will where can i get them or can i get colored samco ones noticed a few motors at bbwf with new hoses

Cleaned it all and checked to see where it is coming from?
I have managed to replace hose clips without removing the pipe but being careful not to distort the new clip. Last one was the bottom hose. Checking through the various pipes to make sure they were tight and this one just spun and not tighten. Undid a new jubilee and refitted around the hose then slipped it to where the old one was and Bob's your mothers brother. Old one was a sod to cut off though, as it would not undo.

Coloured oil hoses?

Poof.

I think you can get pink ones for Chimaeras and MX5s.

Seriously, its probably not a bad idea to change the oil hoses, but its a bit tricky to do, and you may need to bleed the oil cooler to prevent a large slug of air going thru the bearings the moment the oilstat opens.

I am lucky and have a local hydraulic supplies specialist locally. I bought high pressure hydraulic hose, its good for a couple of thousand PSI, and was about 10 quid a metre or summat like that. IIRC its 5/8inch, and is normally used for agricultural machinery like hydraulic hedge trimmers, Combine hydraulics, JCBs etc. www.tom-parker.co.uk is the place.

When you take the old hoses off, if any have got bends in them, straighten them out and watch the cracks open up!!

You'll wonder how the hell they didnt rupture before!!

Also worth spending proper money on ALL stainless hoseclips. Again, tom parkers does them.

HTH.

Ed.
P.S. Youre not really a poof. Im just jealous cos I havent got hoses like that...

I think most people had coloured water hose, and braided oil hose with optional coloured hose ends.

but if you want and can find coloured oil hose go for it.

the leak is coming from the metal coupling pipe that runs to the filter it drips when the oil is warm.
have tried to tighten but dont have two spanners of the right size even so the pipe seems to move and then return back to the same postion? dont want to force it for obvious reasons!
will post a pic later to show.

ta ed great website shiny new clips coming my way.

The nut should turn relative to the pipe bend. If it doesnt theres a problem...

Looks like you have a shiny oil filter too! Go on, get some oily fingerprints all over it!

Is it me or does the pipe look dinked at the back of the nut?
