I'm hoping you guys can help me out here.

I need to find a boat builder or plastics manufacturer who can make a mould of a body kit, and then reproduce it.
I've found a cheap Merc with the same bodykit as my car, and I want a fall back if anything happens to mine. Also I can finally get that illusive tow hook cover, which has been missing on my car since I bought it!

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Thanks,

Darren

It would probably be cheaper just to buy the bodykit - unless you're planning to go into business and sell them, which would be a bit naughty as it's someone else's design.

Unfotunately I can't buy the kit anymore. I've contact the manufacturer, and they don't have any spares or moulds, so I've got to go down this route, it seems

Brundall nr Norwich has plenty of boat builders, try some of the companies along there. Don't bother with Brooms they wouldn't entertain it. But there are plenty of guys who build from their own moulds. Head down to the train station, straight past the Yare PH, then down the lane directly opposite, there's half a dozen small boat building yards.

Try Sonny at Boulter Marine services Horning. They will not be able to do it for you but they use a fibre glass man who can.

I think his name is Steve or Simon but Sonny will know for sure.

I was told that they could make a mould of my Caterham wings so that if I repetedly break them whilst racing then it would be cheap to repair instead of the £100 odd each from caterham. But they would need a good set to make the moulds from and that set would be ruined.

Good luck

Brundall is your best bet, loads of places down there could probably do it. Very pricey though as you need to first mould a positive (bit bigger) then mould on the inside of that to get the right size. And yes be prepared for the one you mould from to get damaged! Best bit is in a few months when they are a bit quieter over the winter.

Long shot Darren, but Norfolk is home to Zeemax who manufacture bodykits. Might be worth giving them a try?
