Hi everyone

I noticed last night whilst taking the roof out of the boot that the Chimaera badge on the back is looking a little tired. Now, do I paint it black around Chimaera, or is it easier to replace? I did't have a chance to look, so was wondering if anyone had done the same and is it glued on or bolted?

Cheers
Mike

I think Leven do a badge reconditioning service. Not cheap though. A bit of black paint carefully applied might do the same job.

I think the badge is bolted in place.

Gold badges work on some body colours, but do look a bit Lexus (in my personal opinion). To be honest I think I'd go for no badge at all.

The badge is bolted on.Pull back carpet and DO NOT drop nuts.
You might find that the state of the badge is just a build up of polish etc over time. A good soak in warm water and a scrub with a nail brush brought mine up to like new.

Bolted, you have to get in behind the carpet, access through the same hole as the boot release mech

They are bolted on in place.
Take it off and clean it up.

I got new ones (silver) from Leven (you do have to send your old ones away), as well as being re-conditioned to new, they are also 'covered' so that you don't get the build up of polish & crap again.

I thought it was well worth the money, nothing worse than tatty looking badges IMHO

Shiny shoes, shiny mind...........

Following everyones advice, I will clean it first, then get it re conditioned if it is still pants.

Just ordered Mr Big's new badges for his Griffith from Leven for his birthday - should take about 3 weeks. Will go nicely with the TVR tie pin as well. Got him the cufflinks for Christmas - luck boy.

That only leaves the TVR Prince Albert chain and fixing left to buy him now

So does that mean you have to be under 14 then?

From memory, Mrs N17 TVR got mine from either the TVR website or the TVRCC website.

Sterling silver, very nice IMHO

Was talking to Neil at Peninsula the other day, a replacement badge with the smooth resin finish is about 30 quid. This is different to the badge I have which is painted pressed alloy. It looks good though - imagine 'Chimaera' written in silver on a black background like a Ford oval.

The paint had started flaking off mine too. I took it off and painted it with some "auto finish" matt black. Couldn't help getting it over the words & edges but thought it would be easy enough to do when nearly dry. Not so, spent AGES trying to clean the paint off the lettering! - especially the dot of the "i".

I'll be giving Simon at Leven a call soon!

My Griff badges were getting a bit scruffy, black background coming off in places so decided to try and refurb them myself before splashing out on new ones.

Took rear badge off, left front in place, scraped the remains of the backgrounds off and repainted in two coats of bodycolour (Persian Aqua)and four coats of clear laquer, took a while and a steady hand and the colour change might not be everyone's cuppa tea - but I'm really pleased with it.

So you should be, looks the dogs danglies. As you say not my cuppa but still looks the biss.

Repainted mine with cellulose black gloss touch up, slash it on ALL over, LET IT DRY.

Clean orft dry paint on letters with a piece of sharpened plastic (Perspex in my case) any chips to painted background paint, re-touch.

Back badge was done about 5 months ago still going strong, front needs a touch up about once a month. (don’t we all?)

may sound silly, but if you're a bit cack-handed, why not try a marker pen?

neil - that looks top!
well done son - give yourself a pat on the back.

I repainmted mine a couple of years ago with black gloss, but someone pointed out the other day it was lloking a bit shabby, so I think I may go the Leven route after all.
