Any S8 owners on here? Like to hear some comments on the car. Reliable? Real world performance? The V10 sounds a lovely piece of kit and the shape is great. Is it really a cruiser and a bruiser or is it an uncomfortable fit between both?

What are the must have options? The B&O system looks stunning but is it noticeably better than the Bose or is it mainly looks? Are there different Nav options?

The Car is very well speced and finished to the highest standards, and very thursty (17 MPG) averaged. The car is fast for a large barge and
Handles well, but rear can be loose if pushed on the tight stuff.
I drove one for a while and could not cope with the Fuel useage.
RS4 much better all round.
PS) the boot is not as big as you think, the RS4 is almost as big and more useable depth wise.

I've averaged just over 20mpg in 13000 miles over the year. Fuel consumption is vile in short traffic-filled journeys (expect about 5-9 mpg). Highest I've had is 25mpg on the Autobahn. Brilliant long distance cruiser, with Wigan-Berlin and Wigan to Ingolstadt, both in one go, neither drive feeling like more than a couple of hours. Not too bad on the B roads and actually feels better than my RS6 did, although on the smaller roads, you know it's a big car. Not much fun in the local multi-storeys either. Can upset most things in the traffic light grand prix and excellent overtaking safety margins. Tyre wear has been surprisingly good and I reckon they're still only half-worn.
Build quality is what you'd expect from a top of the range Audi and my car has been totally fault free. Gets ignored by most people here, but stops the Germans in their tracks- most commonly heard phrase over there at summer was "ubersaloon".

Its a great car but it loses money like a falling safe. Listers have a 1 year old S8 with 35K on the clock for 45K - thats nearly half list priec already, the rest of them dont seem to be doing much better - mostly 50K-ish so already losing 20-30K in a year, the old shape cars used to go for 30-35K at 2 years old in which case i think they will be a fantastic bargain. I suspect the RS6 is going to be cheaper and a better buy.

the B and O system is great but i would avoid the ceramic brakes, nice on autobahns and repeated 100mph stops but useless round town, you just kangaroo stop all the time and nearly put your passengers through the windscreen.

I think the RS4 is a better buy mainly due ot the S8's epic depreciation which seems to be just as bad on the new model as the old one, i would wait and buy one when tehy hit 2 and save yourself 35-40K.

i got offered 15K for my 3 year old previous S8, that cost 70 odd K new, its a hell of a fall, got to be audis worst depreciating car ever - if you got to a brokers site they reckon you can get 15K off list, i spoke to a audi dealer who said he could match that price - its pretty much all their margin but they know they can make a few bob on the parts ands ervice i suppose and not many people in the market for a S8 and they get some sort of dealer bonus for selling them i think.

Spot on terry, and the "Face lift" model is coming out now so RV will drop more, I sold my A8 TDI 4.2Sport in June ( 9 months old) for 44.5K I paid 51K for it so did alright, I got a tip off from an audi mate to sell it early if I wanted a good price before the face lift was anounced. Bought the last of the RS4's Saloon, great cars.

I'd back what has been said about depreciation. It's gone into free-fall and I've jumped. Ordered a fully-specced A5 3.0 TDI, which I'm going to keep for 5 years+! I was going to go for the new RS6, but I've had enough of losing money on cars and filling the coffers of the Treasury. Instead I've bought a 6 berth motor crusier on Wndermere. Had I kept the RS6 and not bought the S8, I'd have been able to buy the boat outright, instead of getting a big loan.

have to agree with all that is said, after 2 D2 and 1 D3 S8's i have to say i wish i had bought a B5 RS4 instead of my second 8. I've just jumped ship from the rapidly sinking S8 depreciation disaster zone into a RS4. given the limited run of RS4's and production already halted it has to be a better bet. looking at dealer prices they are only dropping by 3-4K at most for a year compared to the S8 epic 30K first year drop. Rs3 is more usuable in the UK, a better drivers car, is well equipped although not to S8 hamleys levels so unless you really need the limo space or buy one dirt cheap i would wait until they hit 30K when they will be a nice bargain with the V10.

huge depreciation is not unique to the S8 - all its rivals suffer same inherent devalue probs
It may be audis biggest depreciator but it is also their most exclusive and intresting car
