Grrrr - charging light
Discussion
Hi all,
Driving home on thursday all of a sudden my battery charging light came on.
I pulled over immediately just in case it was the belt that hand gone and it wasn't driving the water pump. Had a proper look and it all looked ok - tension in belt appeared fine.
Just to be safe I replaced the belt and got the alternator checked.
The alternator wasn't working correctly and bought a replacement. I refitted the alternator - started up with a bit of a whistling. Whistling squeal went away and no battery charging light - all good.......all good that is until I restarted - battery light on and now it will not go off!!!
I replaced the belt with an 1855mm rather than 1850mm (as couldn't get hold of one the 1850 one).
Anyone got any ideas?
I've checked the connections on the back of the alternator and they're all ok...so I've spent this evening pulling my hair out......and......grrrr can't get the light to go out.
The car fires up each time - no problem - even with all the electrics on.
Please some one stop me from going (prematurely) bald

It'll probably be the 100amp fuse that links the alternator to the battery. It's under the car attached to the side of the starter motor in a little black plastic box.
Had the same problem a couple of months ago. Came to a halt about 30 mile from home, AA came out and said i had a dud alternator. Replaced with a new one (£130) and still had same problem. Turned out the fuse had corroded where it bolts on.
Very common problem and sorted with a 69p fuse.

All sorted now ordered a couple of 100A fuses a while back - just in case then never bothered checking.
