Having got slightly lost in Chelmsford this morning, I've resurrected my old plan of getting a sat nav. I'd like it to have the following features:

  • The ability to programme my own route. This might sound silly, but I generally think I'm brighter than a computer when setting a cross country route. When I get to an urban area, or a traffic jam, or I realised I've cocked up big time, I'd like to be able to tell it to take over.
  • A traffic module, with the ability to redirect me round traffic jams.
  • Not too exoensive, as it will probably only come in useful a few times a year.
Does anything work like this?

Tom tom,

Pro's

Much better point of interest (poi) / favourites handling than Garmin.

Con's no built in traffic antenna.
PC/Mac interface rubbish.

Garmin.

Pro's
More accurate than tomtom.
PC Interface for routes good.

Con's
Favourites/POI all in one lump, no folders/categories.

I just bought my first satnav, a Snooper Indigo.
Very easy to use, reliable so far, small and neat, fast delivery and a pretty good price at less than £250 delivered next day.
