garage size needed?

is a single ok, i know its not ideal but can it be done?

Dave is right, I wouldn't try this in a single garage unless you've got at least 4 feet available either side and lots of other storage space. In a standard single it would be a pain even getting wheels on and off, bodywork would be a nightmare. I once made a GD Cobra in a big single garage with body suspended above, grovelling underneath to do the mechanical bits on the chassis - not ideal, build quality suffers.

That said James Crewe (www.m250.co.uk) has made a very neat job of building his rolling chassis in a single garage. Though he did get the factory to fit the body and is completing the build in a double garage.

yeah i saw that after the post, i was getting worried i wouldnt be able to do it at all, space for a bigger garage may not be possible.

Not speaking from experience as my garage was built for the job..... But I have seen many a fine Ultima that was built in a single garage.

I watched one being built (over the road from the outlaws) in a single garage and the guy used to wheel the car out onto the drive to work on it.

There are always ways and means.

You could build the car in a large single garage space, but you'll need some place to store panels even if you get them after the chassis is finished, because they will be on and off the car. But IMHO, the most important item you have to have is a large workbench, to work on parts, and to be able to hold small items and tools that you will be working on at the moment.

thanks guys so its not all doom and gloom then, i have sort of been offered the use of a double garage for 2-3 yrs, but its 10 miles away and i'd question my not being able to pop outside to do an hours worth after work, i intend on welding up a chassis dolly to make it easier so a single may be not too bad after all

The Dolly is a must, even in a double garage. You can push the whole think against the wall to work on one side.
When you're ready ask on here as some Dollys are already fairly well traveled and are already supporting their second or third Ultima.
Mine is still in use but was made to be unbolted leaving 2 end frames and 3 horizontal bars. Others have done the same.
