Hi guys,
Got a bit of an issue with my drivers door not opening when required. I have a 99 chim and have noticed that the drivers side door button (under the mirror) has required two presses since ownership to open. Recently though I have on a couple of occasions had the door fail to open after several pushes, luckilly for me and to save my blushes the roof has been down and I have been able to lean inside and open them manually.
The passenger door opens every time with a single press, and upon pressing the drivers side I can hear a clicking sound from the passenger side dash board although nothing from the drivers door lock.
I think from experience I have narrowed it down to a sticking lock or possibly a faulty solenoid but any advice would be gratefully recieved.
Thanks.

As it sometimes works but when it doesn't you're not hearing anything from the door lock, it will be one of two things:

1. No voltage being applied to the motorised release pushrod (commonly referred to as a solenoid, but it's not). Check the wiring connectors to this motor in the 'B' post and also the connector in the door behind the speaker. This tends to get damp and needs cleaning up. Occasionally the switch itself fails, but it's easier to check this first.

2. Faulty motor unit. These get a bit tired: sometimes drenching the unit in silicone spray can bring it back to life. Otherwise do a search in this forum on 'Maplin' and you'll find similar threads with the replacement part number in them.

Cheers mate, I'll have a good look when I get home and give all the connectors a good clean. Hopefully this will cure it.

...and could also be

3 the mirror switch. They can become damp inside leading to occasional failure to work and eventual complete failure. Corrosion of the switch contacts

Thanks for the advice gents, I gave all the connectors a good clean and it seems to have done the trick.
