Just had my new rear wheel bearings delivered. Ooooo, I now see why they were £50 each! They're huge ) I also now see why 10-ton presses have been mentioned in the same sentence of them. Hmmmmm, we shall see, think I'll pull her apart first and then contemplate whether to take them to a garage.....

They are lovely though, got some strange looks as I sat at my desk playing with them this afternoon )

I did one on my old 280 - with a big hammer, no press required

hmmm, thanks for letting me know it's actually possible without big devices :-) I'll see how well/if the old ones come out before deciding on whether to percussion adjust the new ones :-)

I used a length of M12 studding to pull my old un's out and the same to refit the new, making sure I only pulled on the outer race on the new un's, little bit of oil they went in a treat, eight years on still no problems

Put the bearings in the freezer. This should make fitting them a little easier. I have fitted bearings with a press and without and I must say that I would use a press if you can get access to one.
