What a final few laps
Thought Danica had once again screwed Dario's race up

Dixon runs out of few with half a lap to go - Franchitti wins !!

If it wasnt for the fact that they can hear all the radios, I did think for a second that Danica may have spun on purpose to give a few yellow for Dario to finish without another stop. If she hadnt spun though and it had stayed green, would Dario have run out too or would they both have pitted? If not its likely they would have run out I'd think given him and Dixon pitted the same lap for the splash and dash.

Dario Franchitti 2007 IndyCar Champion!

Takes it on the last corner of the last lap of his last IndyCar race before going to NASCAR!
Scott Dixon ran out of fuel on the last turn...talk about luck for Franchitti, he wasn't going to make it past otherwise. $1million bonus as well...

Really pleased for him, he's been hacking away at it for years. So close in 1999 when he tied with Montoya on points but JPM won on race wins.

They'll be celebrating in Whitburn tonight!

Incidentally, how exciting was the IndyCar website streaming coverage? All from in-car cam POV, with the director switching between cars at the front to give the maximum impact and action during overtakes.

I thought it would of screwed Dario's race up as well - but as it happens it almost kept Dixon in there
Dixon runs out of fuel half lap before the flag
Dario runs out of fuel half lap post the flag !

Not sure he did run out though as they fired it back up off the tow-rope and he drove it back in. Scott Dixon was certainly unlucky but it couldnt possibly have been better set up for the finish, winner takes all and those two in 1st and 2nd on the track a lap ahead of everyone else. Unbelievable how it all panned out, had that second(?) caution came out a few seconds later though Dixon would have been down a lap on Dario like everyone else was, so in that respect I guess he was lucky as well to be there (as was Dario to an extent I guess).

Although obviously you have to feel sorry for Dixon, I think Dario deserves it overall, I did feel sorry for him at the last race being collected by Dixon in that last lap spin where it looked like Dixon might have let off the brakes to intentionally block Dario from getting past, although the jury is out on that one I think.

Excellent finish to the season. Great for Dario, but you have to feel gutted for Dixon at the same time. I think the IRL need a bit more quality control though, as Milka Duno is shockingly out of her depth.

That race shows why I prefer IRL to F1. Close wheel to wheel racing at 200 + mph, top 7 rarely split by an distance at all ... great stuff.

Congrats to Dario though I really felt sorry for Dixon.

but i did fall asleep in the middle - still don't get ovals - it's ok for a 10 mins but it's bloody boring going round in circles - the only excitement is the crashes - and that's not really racing is it

Yup, and because you lose over a lap doing a pitstop, its a complete lottery when you pit whether there's an accident and the yellows are thrown because as Hornish / Castroneves found out, you can be the fastest car on the track but end up a lap down with no hope simply because you pitted a lap before a yellow.

I watched the last couple of laps last night.

Well done Dario.

How many of you enjoyed the coverage of Ashleys nips (when the tv should have been showing Dario....grr)?

I thought David Stremme was vacating the #40 Dodge and Dario was being lined-up with a new sponsor deal to drive the car for Ganassi?
