There would be an increase in the suicide rate (due to boredom) which would more than offset the reduction in road deaths

and anyway..you want to reduce bloody ACCIDENTS not deaths. If stupid, incapable drivers didnt hit things then it would all be less necessary.

I do not buy a car to crash it therefore why make all that fuss with security?
Please do not tell me nowadays people buy their car because it got 5 stars on a crash test!
If only driving schools made their job people would drive correctly so manufacturers would not overload their cars with all these security devices and build such heavy cars: what is the point of a 1500kgs Golf GTI????
Thanks Colin Chapman for "Light is Right"
How "mainstream" car customers behave today really makes me

Makes you wonder if the weight of all the safety systems means the cars handle worse and therefore aremorelikely to crash?

My driving instructor told me (6 years ago):
'Watch out for Volvos, they're driven by people who can't drive and expect to crash - why else would you buy a car that sells solely on crash safety?'

I reckon he was bang to rights -the roads would be safer if cars had a sharp spike in the centre of the steering wheel rather than an airbag.
