Filters for PowerShot S3 IS?
Discussion
I'm battling the bane of the non-SLR camera: over-exposed skies. I'd like to fit a graduated filter to my camera, and there's a removable ring around the lens that seems to imply that such things are available, but I've not been able to locate such things on the interwebs - possibly because I don't know what to ask for.
Can anyone help me with the nomenclature or, even, if such things exist?

By a removable ring I take it you mean a screw thread.
if this is the case, you should be able to get a "step up" wing which will increase the filter size, you will then be able to mount a Cokin type system to the front of the lens.
The only problem with this is it is likely to be rather heavy and i don't know how well a compact would take it.
the other option would be the "blu tac" method of attaching a graduated ND filter to the front of the lens

I have an S3IS. The ring around the lens is for attaching an adaptor that provides a standard 58mm filter screw thread. The Canon part no is LA-DC58E or LAH-DC20 which is the adaptor and a small lens hood. You can then use any normal carriers (Cokin etc) which take graduated filters. Canon also do a wide angle and a telephoto lens that fit this, though I haven't tried them.
