Would any of you PHers have any serious concerns about buying a very low mileage (12000) Chim? I can't decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

Look at its (service) history & drive it about a bit - if your still unsure get a TVR Specialist to take a look - its not as expensive as you might think.

I bought my Griff (98) with 16,500 miles on it 2 years ago and I've got no regrets. We went to Lemans in it this year and it didn't miss a beat.

Condition, service history, thorough inspection, HPI etc.

Colin.

This one would be coming from a specialist so I'd expect it to be good from the start. I was just wondering about any future gremlins that I should be aware of.

Had my 2000 450 Chim' now for two years, bought with 4.5k miles. Been faultless and drives like new [though still only done 8.9k miles. I think it's a go'er, consider chassis, suspension etc, not just Engine and driveline. I have no regrets whatsoever. Condition should tell.

I bought a 7,000 mile 500 after about 9 years old - sweet as a nut - so long as if the car has been in storeage it is recommissioned ie oils/tyres etc should be okay - mileage should be reflected well in condition of the other durables. Theres a lot of talk about high milers being better! but this generally is a from thoise with high milers. Low miles doesn't mean low useage. Don't let this scare you, its a positive IMO.

Condition, Condition, Condition.

Provided its good, its beter that any high miler.
You will always be able to get a buyer for a low mileage car, even if you need to spend something on it, its miles will always be good for the seller!!!!

As said, get it checked and its worth its weight in gold.

I personally think low mileage is not a good thing - bought mine at 5 years old with 13,000 miles on the clock and then ended up fixing a few niggles that an everyday car would have had sorted out. That is aboput 2,500 miles a year which means 50 miles a week so maybe a tank of fuel every 4-6 weeks. The first thing mine did was the battery gave out, not surprising really. Get one that someone has driven and enjoyed and looked after.

I bought mine at 3 years old and 7k miles. Had it 5 years and 14k miles. Apart from normal servicing, tyres etc no problems, I would buy another low mileage one again.
My battery also died at 5 years old, but most new batteries are only guaranteed for max 3 years anyway. My every day car's battery died when the car was 3 years old and I done 12k in the first year.

As everyone else says, buy on condition everytime. smile
