Guys,

Whats the legal definition of "three months" as in three months contract ?

Is "three months" , 3 calender months, or simply 12 weeks ?

If I gave someone 3 months to complete a contract would they have 12 weeks as I would assume, or would they have 3 calender months ie some 13.5 weeks as they would claim.

Given that the contract just stipulates "3 months" ( not calender months) which one is right ?

Cheers,

Tony

Our tenancy agreements are 6 or longer months. Although we do also add the dates dates as well for certainty.

I would have a educated guess that you have a known start date and if it does not say otherwise it will be 3 calendar months, other wise they would have put 12 weeks or 84 days from the start date.

I would think that too.

Unless there is a specific "definitions" section in the contract, then the term must be construed to have its normal meaning i.e. "calendar month" in this case.

I always understand it as 3 calendar months. So from 1st Feb to 30th April is a 3 month period, as is 1st July to 30th September, even though they are both different lengths, in actual days.

Drat,

I was hoping it would have been 12 weeks which is what I assumed.

I think your assumption in correct....

...as long as your contract was formed in the mutually agreeable culture of a 13 month year!

Extrapolate it

3 months = 12 weeks
6 months = 24 weeks
12 months = 48 weeks..

eek, we've lost 'a month' somewhere :|
