I have some nasty noises coming from the back end of my Cerb...

I big knock that feels like something is hitting the underside of the car when I change gear quickly, that I'm told by a mechanic friend could be loose axle, and a whining that I'm told is the diff out of oil. This I'm told purely from the noises - she's not been up on a ramp as yet.

She was laid up for at least a year before I bought her.

I'm booked into Dulford Auto for a service and a check over next Wednesday and will have to lay her up until then.

Any thoughts on this? Am I in for a nasty shock? Having picked her up on Saturday, I could do without a massive billl...

Sounds like the dif bushes a very common problem and easy fixed. Could just be the exhaust hitting the floor. but def get it checked out soon!

More than likely the diff bushes. They dont last that long, and sound exactly as you describe.Bushes are cheap.About £18 each, but can be a b***ard to do.Especially the top one.

Diff Bushes
Exhaust
Anti Roll bar

For the knocking.

Whining, sounds like the diff. When does it do it. Mine makes a small whiney noise on overun in 1st. Fine in other gears though.

Whining is intermittent - last night all the time when the throttle was pressed, today not at all.

Sounds hopeful that its not a big job... will leave it to the pros this time.

Thanks for your input!!

Also the Clutch Slave and Master cylinder seals don't like being left standing. The rubber seals dry through lack of use, and ma well give up the ghost once they start being used. Keep your fingers crossed, but at least you'll be prepared.

Thanks Jensen. All good so far - about 360 miles or so, so hopefully got away with that one...

Don't be too sure, mine lasted to Le Mans and back before failing the following year. Car had done about 300 miles the previous year.

Same noise on my Cerby recently. Got new bushes and that fixed the problem. No big deal.
