Right guys I have lived the dream for a while now, but now I need to come back to reality so sadly I have to let my baby go hopefully to b replaced by a TVR Griffith. Therein lies my query,

1. what is a fair price
2. what is the best way to go

So the car .

1997 LHD f355 spider
56000 kms
Red with black leather
Vgc
Tracker fitted
Sports exhaust
Multimedia system

Good service history (not quite full)
Will have full MOT once I have a tyre fitted

Bad Bits:

No tonneau cover
Needs new Bonnet lifters

So what do you guys think would be a fair price to ask ???

And secondly what is the best option private sale or go somewhere like james agger and px it against a Griffth

Any help appreciated guys!!!!!!!

Not wishing to hijack the thread but if that had been a rhd car what roughly would it have been worth ?

Having been watching rhd 355 spider prices for a while now they seem to be all over the shop !!

I looked at one rosso / creme 97 3k £45,995 in jan and its still for sale now !!!

I have seen 97my cars i.e. 5.2 from 36,995 to 59,995 now I know you should always buy on condition but what is a fair price

My purchase is potentialy iminent hence the hijack

Thanks
Phib

£34-38k depending mileage /condition. FYI, one of the last '99 spiders is currently for sale for £50 , after dealer's SOR cut seller should net £45k

IMO its what ever the individual wants to pay and were one insists in buying one from. Some people will only buy from a main Ferrari dealer and you can bet ya bottom dollar they pay allot extra for the privilege. They believe that a nice marble polished floor and techs in ironed overalls is a guarantee to the sale of the best Ferrar there is. GreyPaul currently have a 355 at 62K, some one will buy it and its my guess he will be a first time buyer or a repeat customer. Then next you will get those who want to buy from a Ferrari independent whos prices are in the middle ground, and they think the extra cost of a Warranty is worth the paper its written on. Then you have the conusor who will look at every car there is and make a choice on a compiled list. And take it from there if all the boxes are ticked and maybe start the bidding/ bartering. Finally you have the buyer who buys with his hart and not his head. A very easy trap to fall into especially if you are a first timer.
F355 prices are bloody funny to be honest, but i have noticed when ever there is a high priced 355. There are some who cry over priced! Its like there insecure about the price of there own non 355 ferrari model or some thing.
As for my 355 spider in perfect condition, its worth maybe a tenner due to the mileage is over 45Kwink
Which brings me to the suspect mileage readings on allot of there 355s for sale out there.........Oh i have done it again, i digressbiggrin

Do you think that a lot of 355`s have incorrect mileage readings?

Indeed i do mate, i always have and have documented this of several forums. I base it on many things that i have seen over the years, and alot agree with me. You know if you look at the mileage of 360 which came after the 355 of course. You will notice that the mileage on most 360 after two years of use, was the same as a 355 that is 10 years old. Are you telling me that the average 355 has only done 2000 a year from new.
Also the 355s are that easy to wind back due to simple electronics. And yes even 360s have the mileage tampered with. The best way to check if a car has the correct mileage is to read all the paper work and bills that should come with the car. Even then dont trust this 100%. Service books dont mean a thing, i mean in between services some clocks are rolled back a few thousand.
There has even been cases (documented on sites like fchat) of a car being sold with 40k on it and then a few years later the owner recognises there old car for sale but this time it has 12k on the clock with all the correct paper work/service books. These sell on ebay every now and then....blank.
Have you ever noticed how many people bid on ebay when there's a 355 speedo with low mileage on it? I asked a few years back when one was for sale and had 15 bids on it, i asked two ferrari forums who had bid on the speedo, and the one on the week before......no one repliedlaugh
There is a clear reason for why ferraris have there mileage tampered with, resale value pure and simple. A car with 12k on the clock is worth 5 grand plus more than one with say 27k on the clock, and even specialist ferrari sellers know thiswink Some of us have heard the stories.
Yes i know i may seem cynical but hey i understand its all about loosing money, that changes things IMO.
If you are asking me personaly to give a % of suspect milage on ferraris out there i would say over 50%. But hey it only my opinion, although shared with a Ferrari tec mate of mine.smile And my car is worthless, but its a keeper.
