OK now I have actually figured out that the front hub carrier is from a sierra, looking through my haynes manual I noticed the sierra front hub carrier with an ABS sensor in it, which set me thinking.

I've looked a bit further and from what I can make out the ABS wiring loom is also totally seperate from the main wiring loom, so theoretically could you fit ABS to an S with a donor car ?

I'm only thinking theoretically here - but just thought it would get a few grey cells ticking on this forum.

So is there room to fit the sensors on the rear hub carriers - because I'm not clear where they mount.

Also what provides the pulses to the sensors ?

I think the show stopper would be the ABS unit that replaces the servo / master cylinder - which is quite large and may not fit.

Also would the suspension take the pounding that ABS could give it at full chat ?

Thinking back to my Sierra 4x4 which had a ABS fault light on when I bought it... The sensors are mounted in the hubs and pick-up on a disc which has loads of gill-like flanges on. I think it is an electromagnetic sensor? Anyway, on the 4x4 the sensor was covered in road-dirt so cleaned all those off. Still had light but turned out garage had unplugged ABS control module hidden in dash to hide fault! Big problem would be the servo system. The brakes are 'powered' by an electric pump which whirrs away merrily independant of the engine, rather like the new MINI power steering system. The ABS signal acts on this pump (shuttle-valves?) to interrupt the pressure to the brake that is sensing being locked-up. Don't think you could have the Ford system without all these components interacting together. Better bet (and more fun) would be a track-driving course where they demo cadence braking (pre-ABS technique)

I think the biggest issue is whether the pump unit would physically fit as you rightly say.
If it did then I don't actually think it would be beyond the realms of possiblility.
All the hubs are sierra - so with a donor car you could transfer them to the tiv along with the relevant abs sensors etc.
The abs wiring loom from investigating that I've done elsewhere is seperate to the main loom so you don't have to strip it out from the main loom.

You do need discs all round - but as I have a V8S I'm already there.

Then there's just the small matter of a few pipes and wires.....
