Turbo probs with newish diesels?
Discussion
I've heard that around 60k they blow and repairs of around £2k from BMW!
Spoke to local dealer and he played it down but admitted "some cars, not all, depends how they have been driven". How are you supposed to know if buying second hand?
Looks like my mate is gonna walk away and look at something else.

Look at BMWland forum. There's much talk about E46 320D 150bhp problems with blown turbos and inlet manifold blowing and parts being sucked into the engine with expensive results. http://www.bmwland.co.uk/talker/viewforum.php?f=4
My turbo went last year, it cost me £1500 with BMW paying the other half as a "courtesy". They are known faults.

Some very common problems occuring with the variable vane turbo's, they get bunged up with soot (the vane bit) and seize, then your turbo over spools & falls over dead. Also I beleive the manifold is an integral part of the turbo & can add to the costs of a rebuild.
Same issue with some of the VW Pdi's
