Hi everyone. I think this is my first post in the TVR section.

Does anyone know of anyone who could inspect a Tuscan for me in the London/Essex area?

Also is the 3.6 engine (04 onwards I believe) more reliable than the 4.0 engine?

Thanks in advance.

As regards 3.6 vs 4.0, I am not sure if there is any proven stats or hard data on reliability. Mine is a 3.6li and am told was regrettably one of the first to go in the South of England (back in Aug 05), but there are many many more experiences of folk who have had no such issues. I think I am also correct in saying that the 3.6 was dropped as an engine option in 2006 (?) which may make your mind up for you if purchasing a more recent model.

All the best - take your time, do your research, speak to owners on here and at meetings, purchase, take a ride drive course, and enjoy for many moons thereafter smile

I'd say the later engines definitely seem to be more reliable but I don't know that there's much if any difference between the reliability of the 3.6 vs the 4.0
I'd say go for the latest one you can afford, or (what I did) get one which has already had a good rebuild, saving some money incase something else breaks (which mine did!)

Cheers,

Leven in Basildon will do an inspection IIRC providing it's booked in. Wouldn't personally recommend the other bloke (PM me for my experience)

I have had a conversation with Dave at Automedon who suggests that performance-wise there is not much to choose between the two engines. However, the 3.6 litre is operating at well within it's capabilities whereas the 4 litre is just about on the limit.

most S6 problems were top end though, valve guides, finger followers etc, so is there any actual difference between the 3.6 & 4.0 top ends?

Alan

(PS had 2 S6's with a total of 45K miles with no problems)
