A day at the racetrack...
Discussion
Wow. My face is still beaming from my day karting last Sunday as i attempted to become VXR's racing driver of the year at the Daytona karting track in Manchester! For anyone who didnt hear about the competition, i answered a quiz online (www.vxrdriver.co.uk) and got selected along with about 2000 others i think, to race in karts. So, Sunday, I had 15 mins to set a hot lap but unsurprisingly i didnt make it through to the Grand Prix final on that day and wont be in the Final Camp :-( - hence my dream of becoming a racer is over - for this year at least! I still had an amazing day though - would recommend it to anyone out there. If not purely for the free karting session!
Loads of the other competitors had brought along mates etc - with no-one there to support me i reckon this is the main reason i didnt cut the mustard ;-) - if not that then it may be something to do with my weight...ahem
After my session was up i stuck around and saw the Italian VXR driver(Fabrizio?), played on some cool little remote controlled touring cars, and had a few gos on an x box race game. Although i dont own a VXR, on closer inspection of the range i have to say i was v. impressed.
For anyone wanting to meet the VXR drivers, one of the event guys told me Tom Chilton would be at the Kings X and Thruxton semis - not sure about the other driver tho.
BTW - look out for me on ITV next year some time - i was filmed and had to sign some waiver saying i was happy to appear on tv...of course i was happy!!
For anyone going to the remaining semis, make sure to take ur ID! - saw some ppl getting turned away as they didnt have any on them- ouch
Fellow wannabees, Good Luck!
