Hi, can anyone recommend a company to rebuild/exchange an Essex v6? They would have to be able to remove and fit as well. Have read good things about Ric Wood so far

Could just play roulette with the yellow pages but i want this done properly. Thanks for any scare stories or recommendations!

Oh, and sorry if this is the wrong section

Rick wood had my Wedge on his RR, his working methods seemed OK but £125/hour + VAT seemed somewhat steep to me. I Also have other opinions but won't be posting them here (enough people seem to use this site as www.bitching.com)

JW Developments in Wolverhampton I would recommend very strongly, he has a massive wealth of knowledge on Ford V6 engines. He has prepared many championship winning engines, if you do give him a call have an idea of what your wanting and alow a minimum of one hour for the call! If you do call JW you could tell him my 2.8i V6 is peaking at 261BHP but more importantly 240 to 270Lb/Ft of torque from 2800rpm to 6000rpm.

Regards,

Chris.

Cheers guys.

I spoke to ric wood yesterday, just way too expensive. I'll give JW a bell next week, thanks for heads up. Sounds a beast! Also considering the car clinic, anyone heard of them?

I don't want any bitching, and i know the internet can hardly be relied on but i have found a few rebuilders which have a few not so happy customers put it that way!

Thanks

Are you getting this engine built to stock spec i.e 138hp spec or is it going to be a breathed on powerhouse?evilbecause built to stock specs this aint an expensive unit to build, even with a full balance, ported heads & a mild cam.

As breathed on as i can afford. I don't need veyron style power to get some sideways action in a capri... but the more the merrier!

They've all said to me the pistons are costly (60 each, iirc) but otherwise its not expensive compared to other engines

cheers

Depends what numbers you are thinking of,i built a powerhouse one of these for someone in the early nineties, and they can get expensive with the right bits i.e pistons, big valve heads port matched manifolds & seasoned conrods etc, whatever you do dont be tempted to use the holley 390 kit Swaymar or otherwise,it dont work unless you drive with the pedal on the floor, flat spots dire fuel consumption etc BLOODY AWFUL.The Weber is good for 180hp ish on a flowed & matched inlet manifold, blinding motorbowFailing this use the triple weber set/up or Megasquirt or Emerald it,that would make a gem of a motor.

Cheers for the advice mate.

As it turns out, i've found a really good used 3.0 engine so there no need to have a rebuild. Its going to be fitted on the 4th Oct so i've got a few weeks to sort out some mods! Any ideas on what i should do to get a few more horses without touching the block? Thanks!

John Wade is popular amongst the Scimitar boys for essex builds and re-builds. The majority of our sprint/hillclimb championship engines are Wade based. from what ive heard hes very good, reasonably priced, if a little eccentric... DONT tell him what you think/your mate thinks/your last tuner thinks or he can get the proper arse! suppose he gets so many people asking advice and then ignoring it lol. maybe try asking same Qs on scimitarweb.com
Another would be TC Developments in Gloucestershire, if you cant find details, i will ring round and get his details.
Cheers

John Toovey in Cannock rebuilt my Ford V6 race engine and the car was superb - but you do have to take it out yourself and deliver it to him on a pallet.

Good thing is he will bench-dyno the lump for you and get it set up properly - so when you install it back into the car it's just plug & play. Perfect!
