Hi guys,

Long time reader, first time writer!

Well after much deliberation VXR / VXR8 I finally plumped for a 56 silver 6.0 VXR which I picked up last Saturday which is awesome (Did the VXR track day at Oulton Park to try out the VXR8)

It is currently standard but will be going for the Wortec cat back and rip shifter more than likely!

Anyhow, back to the main question - The car has two front scuffed alloys - not bad but I want them right. The guy I bought it from is a 70 year old exec from Vauxhalls in Morecambe and he had to swerve to miss a post van and caught at least one but can't remember how he did the other.

Do you guys know any good contacts that could refurb and match the colour in the North West (I'm based in Wigan)? I had a guy come from Wheel Wizards in Warrington but he wasn't confident about matching the colour.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers
David

Having had a BMW with the shadow Chrome effect on the finish - similair to the VXR's you may struggle to get an exact match Im affraid. Its a very hard colour to do. Not much help I know. Good excuse to upgrade to a wider set of wheels though... :-)

I think yopu may be looking at refurbing all 4 to get a colour match, I'm looking at a company in B'ham who will powdercoat all 4 for £250 ish.

"Pristine" or "Spit n Polish" come very highly recommended. If you go to your local tyre dealer they should be able to remove the tyres and send them off for you. It takes about a week and costs about £55 per wheel.

powdercoat should cost no more than 40-50 quid a wheel and no matter how good a job never looks quite as good as a painted wheel. plus with the nature of powdercoat any splits/scratches etc will allow water to penetrate under the surface and can cause it to lift off in huge strips

And it's brittle so you'll end up with big chips out of the rim every time your tyres are changed. Normal wheels are painted and then laquered which is easier to clean.

I also saw somwhere that the process of powder coating which requires temperatures in excess of 200 degrees C can damage some wheels.
