Last time I enquired about a service the dealers weren't too bad, it seems they have gotten worse, or are they just quoting me expensive rates?
For a 330d
Oil service - £173
Coolant change - £178.96 - I'm sorry, filling my car up with glorified water and antifreeze costs THAT much??
Brake fluid - £60
Engine breather £40
I fell off my chair
£450?
I managed to get him down to £400
But I mean c'mon that just takes the ****
My indy wanted -
£80 for the service
£60 for coolant + brake fluid
£45 for the breather
£185.
What a con.
I could supply my own oil - but they cannot do that, nor can the other 5 dealers in my locality - £11.25 a litre for oil anyone?

I posted on here at the time and got a couple of replies along the lines of "It's an expensive car, what do you expect?"
This is horse-sh1t. It's a car at the end of the day and unless it's a 70's Italian car then changing the oil should be no different to anywhere else.

Oh, and not being able to supply your own oil is shocking - even my local dealers were willing to let me do that (didn't affect the extortionate labour rate though)
Oh dear.
Even Porsche dealers let you supply your own oil, which is just as well given my 911 needs 12 litres of Mobil 1.
I got it for 40 sheets from CostCo as opposed to 160 from Porsche!
I know of on Lamborghini Murci owner who does the same with oil and plugs. Leaves them in the car when he books it in. No complaints from the dealer and he saves about 300 a time...!!
Even if you're loaded like him, no point in burning money!

An oil service for how much!!!!
They buy the oil in at 60-90p a litre, a genuine oil filter costs sub £10 at trade prices & its 20 mins work tops.
How long does it take to earn the cost of that lot?
If its a BMW dealership, they'll be quoting time to get the engine warm, empty oil, put in flushing oil, run engine for a bit, drain that, put in new oil ....They buy the oil in at 60-90p a litre, a genuine oil filter costs sub £10 at trade prices & its 20 mins work tops.

But I agree, its darned pricey. I was quoted up to about £120 for my 318iS oil service .....
Yesterday my 525d Tourer had
Oil Service
Rear Brake Pads
Fluid Change
Intake service????
Breather service
and cost.....wait for it.....
£800
Beyond rip off. Goodbye BMW after 5 consecutive cars...!!!
I'm off to buy a 10 year old 993. For the same money I'll be driving a childhood dream rather than a new BMW which quite frankly is no where near as well built as my previous E39 528

I've got a bill in my folder for
Discs and pads
Plugs
24k service
Brake fluid
3250.
If you think the BMW is expensive.........
Nothing. I fully expect the 993 to be more expensive servicing (although whole life costs may not be much worse as I hope that a 993 might not depreciate like my 525 will). I guess my point was simply that BMW are getting too expensive relative to the pleasure I get out of owning them. If I am going to pay loads of money then I'll spend it on something I've always dreamed of.

You having a laugh? It costs considerably more than that! (For Mobil 1 castrol Edge etc)They buy the oil in at 60-90p a litre, a genuine oil filter costs sub £10 at trade prices & its 20 mins work tops.

Have got a 535d, 335d coupe and a 993 S - first service on 535d was £240 (oil service only) - 12k service at a specialist for the 993 is about £300 considering this includes 2 oil filters and air filter and 11.5 litres of mobil 1 - thats pretty good value. But then with labour rates at BMW at £95 per hour and at Indy £50 there will always be a big differential.

Yes it is bought in bulk so it can be on 'draft' for convenience but the price saving is minimal per ltr compared to the 'can'
I know what the 'true' cost is..... Ive seen the bulk bills from Mobil!

PS I use both Main Dealers and Specialists for my families cars and my general rule of thumb is main dealer upto 5yrs 60k then Specialist there after
Yes you can save money by taking your own but if y
