Hello everyone

This is my first post. Just wanted to say hello. I finally got my hands on my Chimaera today - it's been in the garage for a couple of weeks (as when I bought it needed some TLC)

Anyone in the Gloucester area?

I think I've seen you around.

Is it normal for my girlfriend to hate it? (the car that is)
She has complained already:
1. It's too noisy
2. People are staring
3. It's too fast
4. All I can see are wipers

Are you a member of the owners club - thinking about signing up.

yes it is normal. the first thing my girlfriend said was that she liked the colour but it was a bit too scary for her to drive.

i know there are a lot of good girl drivers who own chims on this forum but tbh it is quite a masculine car. that's the point.

Yes, I'm a first time owner of 2 months and I still can't get the wife to drive it. She was dead keen when she saw it but terrified when I turned the key!

You can fix the "all I can see are wipers" problem by putting in longer seat bolts. I've had this done on both seats, there is a thread somewhere on here already on it. Basically the bolts are reasonably cheap, and lift the back of the seat by an inch or so. Of course, if she were in the driving seat, it wouldn't be a problem anyway..... cool

"It's too loud, it'll break down and it will depreciate! Buy a Boxster S" - she said. So, I bought a Boxster S.
Got rid of the Boxster S - got rid of her, bought a 5 litre Chimaera and got a new 'bird' who loved the car. Get a new bird! smile

Brilliant thanks all you're all really making me laugh :-)

We've been out for a run around the cotswolds, just got home and she's gone to open her door. She turns it the wrong way (ie: towards me) then shouts 'doesn't anything work properly on this evil thing?' then in temper she presses the lock button and turns it to herself shouting 'see!!!!! SEE!!!!' (implying the lock didn't work)

I nearly cried it was so funny.....don't think I'm being spoken to now....but it's worth it!

Hi All - another new proud Chim owner here. Picked up a beautiful Sapphire Black 400 from David Hendry in Malmsbury 5 weeks ago. Joined the TVRCC to get a good deal on the insurance and have met the gang twice - good crowd and we're off to Bridport for lunch on Sunday. Its loud and people stare, but who cares! I just wish I could have afforded one years ago instead of now when I'm the wrong side of 50. I thought that my wife would be dead against it, because lets be completely frank, its an indulgent waste of money, especially as we have two cars already. But when her reaction was "what colour"?, not how much? or why? I knew I was home and dry. Its awesome and we both love it. It's so brilliant compared to "ordinary cars" with metal bodies and plastic cabins. Porches, M3s, RS4s, Imprezas, Mercs - all hairdressers cars. Everybody says they are fragile and quirky, but nobody told me that 1/2 the instruments and gauges all lie. The speedo has to be wrong, cos it keeps telling me that I'm going too fast. I know that the fuel gauge lies, because when I ran out of fuel on the M5 yesterday it was clearly telling me that there was still a gallon or so left. At least I now know for a fact that a full tank is OK for not much more than 200 miles, so I'll use that rather than the gauge to decide when to refuel.

I joined up to the club, its not expensive but I had to get it insured before membership came through as couldnt wait any longer to take delivery...

We've been out all day in it and it's growing on her. (so they're making friends - phew)
Mine is Starmist Blue I'm pretty sure you're the one I've seen. But then there are a couple that I've spotted since agreeing to buy about a month ago..... :-)

Mines going back to have a final bit of work done (new rockers, lifters, camshaft etc) - but I wanted to get a couple of months under my belt before winter really sets in. Then it's saving up for a respray - it's a bit stone chipped - but I love it!
