Starter Motor Removal
Discussion
You will need a long allen key to get to the top bolt. Make sure they recon your unit and don't just exchange it - as an exchange may be larger and foul on the manifold. Should cost about £70.
10 minute job if the bolts come out easily (make sure the heads are clean, if you round them you will be in deep!)

I had to change out my starter in my 450 SE last summer. With the starter being within 2 inches of the manifold, there's not a lot of working room. It helped me to remove the selanoid first, which gave a little more working room.
I tried to replace it with a new one, but really had a hard time sourcing the part. I had Bosch of Germany (where I live) rebuild the motor, and while I was in there I replaced the selanoid with a new one.
I suspect that this will go bad again in just a few years due to the immense heat from the manifold.
Good luck
