Before i start this question i know the standard 4 pot VXR8 brakes are AP and are very good.

My question is if i replace the 4 pot standard APs with six pot APs (4 pot rear) at a cost of £2400(which includes uprated pads and braided hoses) will the resultant set up be significantly better. Please disregard the cost issue and concentrate on the practical result. No soapbox speeches please an answer to the question is all i require.

Many thanks

No.

Better feel, but, no better stopping in reality.

I had a drive of the monkfish demonstrator yesterday, the Aps on that felt like they had much more initial bite than my VXR.

They do on the VXR monaro, VXR8 keeps the same discs and pad area I believe. 6 pots rather than four. Number of stops will not make any difference really unless you change the discs.

sorry to hyjack your thread but is it cheaper/just as effective to fit some second hand VXR callipers as buy new APs? I'm thinking of upgrading my CV8 brakes and don't want to pay too much?

Look at the Performance pads option, Monkfish offer it and it's a good setup for the std calipers/rotors

for the price saving and the benefit yes the VXR brakes (Monaro) are a very worthy investment. I have never personally seen the need to go any greater for fast road use. I got the blue fluid and performance pads from Monkfish and have to say it was a superb upgrade over standard. AP's probably better still but $$$$ better for road use I'm not sure.

He's right - I'm not

Next, where's the cheapest place to get some second hand VXR (monaro) callipers and is it worth doing both ends or just the front?

Back to thread topic.

It's all about surface area as well as the brakes ability to transfer/diffuse heat to prevent fade, you can have 12 pistons if you want but if the disc isn't upgraded diameter and the pad in compound it's still gonna suffer fade when worked hard. The 6 piston set up on my SS does grip alot harder around town but when pushed hard it still fades, only changing to a high performance pad changes this but then renders them absolutely useless when daily driving.

Questions gotta be asked....what is the intended purpose of the upgrade, is it purely for street use or will this set-up be used in track days and other driving events? My 2C would be if not used in competition, stick with the 4 potters and spend the dough elsewhere, unless this is a asthetic decision.

def do both ends but looking at the swept area of the rear pad there is huge area unused but still worth the upgrade

ebay is your friend.

As far as my question goes thanks for the points of views. I think i will go for the braided lines and uprated pads.

Thanks
