Ok, so he wants one. He wants one very much. I think a Cerbera is the best option, but which one of the three? Here's the things that I need to weigh up, and I need your help:
Current car is a Mondeo 2.0 litre GLX. Averages 44mpg, reliable, practical. So, he doesn't want something that suddenly does 10mpg, breaks down every five seconds, and can't accomodate his work stuff/cricketgear/my bass guitar. Which Cerbera would you get? (or other TVR if you really think it'll be better than the cerb).

A precat Griffith would be just the ticket - fast enough, frugal enough and reliable.

Here's a vote for the Cerb

I more or less live in mine, it carries plenty of daily sh*t around and is big enough in the boot to take a couple of sets of golf clubs so your guitar shouldn't be a major problem.

Note of importance here though, don't be put off by cars with relatively high miles.... in fact if you look at the receipts and see that it's only done about 200miles in the last two years then I'd be concerned. I didn't have this tip when I bought mine and it took a while and a bit of cash to run the cobwebs out. She ran 12mpg to start with and broke down a few times due to seized stuff that just hadn't been run for a while, but now it's all sorted I'm getting 23+mpg combined (more on a run) adn I haven't had any hint of mechanical trouble for the best part of 6months (only owned her for 11months now).

Seriously, keep it running, don't let her stand around doing nothing - Thats what gets TVR bad reputations. My ex-girlfiend has left her "perfect / reliable" jap car sitting around for a couple of months without turning a wheel and it ain't so reliable now! smile

I'm trying to convince my Dad who is 86 that a Griff is the car for him.
He wants one, but problem is he can't get insurance for it at his age, and my Mum who is 84 can't get in it.
It is to low. Bless her. I'd like to take my Mum in the Tam, but can't get her in that either cos it is to low.

Oh well. Dad loves to drive the Tamora though. Say's it is some what fast.

keep the current car, and get a relatively simple/relatively reliable griff/chim/v8s

you didn't say budget - Which is REALLY important for this descision!

Oo budget.....20-30 grand? I will have to ask my dad more about this aspect. He's wanted one for a while, and after seeing the BNG vid, and hearing all them TVRs, he has decided when he retires (about 3 years from now), he is getting one.

Ive had my current griff for 9 years.

do 6k miles a year or less. one service/mot a year. plus consumables
new dampers springs, wishbones at 7 years..

you could get a MINT one for 20k and have 10k left over for a nice wedge, or a 4.0 chim as a run about wink

Hmmmmm....it has to go be able to go for some considerable time too; the Mondeo has 110000 on it, still does 44mpg, and will still piss all over a BMW 5.20i........biggrin. So the biggies are reliability, practicality, and performance. I think he's got his eye on a Cerbera, mebbe a griff or chim....do you reckon the V8 engines are more reliable than the Speed 6s?

Hmm, I think he wants a chim/griff/cerb kinda thing. Are the V8s more reliable than the straight 6s?

If it's his first TVR and he is coming from a Mondeo then he certainly doesn't want a Cerbera.

Unless he is lucky the ownership experience will not be what he is hoping for. They are great cars but unquestionably less reliable and much more expensive to run than the V8 engined cars. This isn't a dig at Cerberas or their owners - just common sense. He should get a Chimaera 400 which is plenty fast enough after the Mondeo and move on from there if he decides he wants more performance.
