puzzled over the road tax. Just had the reminder. Why is my wifes Meriva £205 and the TVR £180 for the year ?

Tiv will be taxed as 'PLG' rather than petrol car... seems some sort of dodgy deal was done between factory and DVLA (maybe to do with type approval) so SHHHHH!! wink

Yep, your TVR is taxed as a van.

Its probably old enough to have no co2 emissions data. My G33 is the same. Its a flat rate for older cars. And PLG is how cars used to be described.

its because the Tiv was made before the emissions regs came in, so they get hit only for the flat rate of (what is it now ?) ~ £180 . Newer cars are cleaner , more fuel efficient and are destroying the planet and therefore attract higher tax as they have had their emissions measured and car tax is on a sliding scale based on emissions. You can now drive the Tiv to work every day and point out to everyone that your emissions based road tax is lower than their 1.6 vectra and you are helping to save the planet

Interesting !

I knew that Pre 2001 cars where taxed under the PLG scheme can anyone advise if the late(ish) model TVR are also taxed the same way ?

I prefer the look of late model Chim (2000/1) <Still saving smile> but had been put off a later car as I assumed that it would be in a high tax bracket due to a High C02 figure, can anyone clarify this as it may be useful in the future.
