Got a bit of a misfire today on the cerbie. Got a funny feeling one of the coil packs is knackered, as when driving at any speed, anything over light throttle leads to a constant misfire and lumpy running. when you stop at a junction it backfires (sounds like a shot gun going off in the exhaust).
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and what it was.
Are the coil packs really off a 96 citroen zx 1.6?

Could be the 100A fuse. Cheaper to replace than coil pack.

I replaced my coils and leads this week end. What a difference. My car has clearly had a coil problem since I bought it. Here is the damaged coil. I got the new ones from Eurocar parts

would that be the fuse that is located behind the coil packs thats fed from the alternator (cause its been removed by the previous owner and linked out).

It would appear that I also have the same problem at the moment, have a misfire and split ignition coils. The readings from the throttle pots are fine etc. etc.

I am having mine changed in the next couple of days, so I may need to post an update to be of any help! smile

(Oh and I'm not driving the car for fear of burning out the Cats! But that could be me fussing!).

Could just be dud leads (I say just but they are more expensive than a pair of coil pack). If you are really lucky you might find one has just worked it's way loose, I had this recently and I had a hell of time trying to get the little blighter to stay securely onto the plug.

Good to meet you yesterday, once you get the niggles sorted I reckon you will have got yourself a stonker thumbup

OT: Nicky.... shocked you hear you still have cats, best you get rid of them ASAP young lady.

Ah. Righto wink.

Will sort it out as soon as I've fixed the leaks and the misfire. Thanks TC - for trying to keep my image intact! laugh

I have purchased new coil packs. Interestingly their are 2 types of coil pack - 1 is £25 from GSF and is the same as the original item and they also do one thats £46 and is a bosch coil pack - they belive its a better coil pack and its also slightly smaller so its easier to fit without removing the fuel rail etc. SHall see if it makes a difference once i have retrieved the extension bar i dropped into the engine bay (got to find it first.... whooppps)

I have just recently had exactly the same experience of rough running. I changed the plugs, magnecore leads, and 2 coil packs, none of which worked. 200 quid later i have since found out that its a leaking joint between the manifold and the head, underneath on one side by the baulkhead (see my other posts pleading for help) Bugger!!!
Moral of the story....check all the easy stuff first before diving in.

And a slightly cooler left calf smile

Oh yes...... And it saves your car chewing them up at £400 a pop.

Just save them for the m.o.t.'s smile
