Standard T/C stops working sometimes...?
Discussion
Take this morning. Dropped Junior off at the nursery and headed through the back roads on my merry way. got to a T junction and looked left. a long line of traffic with a Learner heading them up, on a single carriage road, so I thought, OK - give it some beans and beat the learner (open road in front etc etc).So applied a little (?) throttle and got under way with the usual little wiggle from the back end. Kept the throttle on, knowing the traction would kick in BUT IT DIDN'T. Suffice to say, as the revs built i left 2 black squiggles and a big plume of blue smoke for the learner to drive through....(you can just hear the instructor can't you - "now student - thats how NOT to drive on the public road...blah blah blah" As i looked down though at the traction picture, it said "Traction Off" then a split second later "Traction on" and the limited grip picture... I Manually turned the T/C off and on a couple of times and tried again at the next junction. T/C worked fine.
Anyone experienced this "intermitant" T/C? Fine in the dry, but i'm starting to think it may worry me if it did it in the wet/ice/my lady driving etc..

Ummmm......... thats what happened to me, but it was wet....you know the rest.
Race logic is the way forward, can't sing its praises enough.
I have it set on WET nearly all the time (unless having a bit of fun in a safe environment) you get no wheel spin at all on the wet setting.
You can hear it cutting the power - the engine makes a popping miss fire like sound.
I would obviously not advocate relying on any electronic gizmo so you can give it more welly but,
I just want to know the wheels will not spin when I'm not expecting it !
Regards Neil

You may have simply overcome it.
Just pressing harder on the pedal does this.

Never happened before though?!?!?. Manual 05 CV8 if this makes any difference... Just a bit shocked that normally when T/C kicks in you just sit and wait the 1-2 seconds for it to back off and reapply the power - but this time it was like i had no T/C at all.
How Much for Race logic - and does anyone else reccomend it?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Makes sense, it's pretty crude and only uses the stepper motor for the cruise control to limit the throttle movement. A leadfoot could probably overcome it..
I don't think it even backs the power off, just stops you applying more. The best form of traction control is brain and foot co-ordination, trouble is, the more you rely on electronics, the worse, said brain/foot co-ordination becomes....
I know the standard TC is crude and not hugely effective, but strangely mine has also been less effective than usual for the past couple of days. The back is stepping slightly further out than usual before the power is killed, and twice I have lit the rears up in a straight line either without meaning to, or at least under circumstances where they wouldn't have done so previously.
Haven't inspected the rear tyres but I wondered if this was symptomatic of the rears "going off", as many performance tyres do long before they're actually worn out?

More likely just down to the temperature drop over the last week, road temp has dropped and also cooler air will liven up the engine a little.

I would put it on 6 in the dry. Wet setting seriously disrupts progess. I always try and avoid putting the power down in low speed corners (like roundabouts) as I do not believe it works (RL) until 20+.

Been practising my brain/foot control and no problems there. Couldn't get the T/C overridden though (ie by pressing harder on the pedal) even in the wet today, so will wait to see if it ever happens again - I totally agree you should (usually) drive to the traction limits of the car, but if the unexpected happens i don't want to find myself in the proverbial "Hedge Bottom" beacause of the failure of a safety system.
Racelogic is the buisness, Sophie is totally confident with it selected to wet.
I know.... don`t rely on it etc etc.
But for an inexperienced driver who never wants to explore the cars limits or improve the brain body bit, but is forced to drive a hideously overpowered inadequately harnessesd (=
)primitive drivetrain car its a no brainer.
