What do mean, *gone* mad ?In my view, they were always prone to wild statements.
Still, they haven't a hope in hell of getting elected
under the current UK system, so they can indulge
themselves silly at conference time.
I haven't had such a good laugh for ages.
Interesting to note that under various continental
voting systems, they'd be a serious party with
some clout c.f. the Greens in Germany.
Why is there so much Lib Dem hate on here? As you all know I am a staunch Lib Dem, the Cons are full of shite, and Labour aren't much better. I just don't get why people are so anti-change? I don't think they mean ban petrol cars right this second, that'd be stupid, but banning them in the future, when we've converted to bio-ethanol, is a good idea I think. It's interesting to note Le Mans have imposed a rule that by 2008 they went all cars to be running on some form of bio-ethanol mixture. Let's face it, it's the way forward, to keep cars, the things we are all on this site because of, we will have to adapt to newer fuels.

What's your reasoning for that? Because it sounds to me as if you're suggesting that petrol engines should be banned simply because you disapprove of them for some reason, although I don't know what the reason could be.They'll be obsolete as there'll be nothing to run them on eventually. I love cars, especially TVR, in my heart I want one, I want to go fast and be all adrenaline junky. However, I also have a brain, as I'm sure most of you do. In my head I know we must sacrifice some of what we like for the greater good : keeping the planet in decent enough condition for our children. Not only that, all the other species on the planet too.

Your brain is wrong, we should burn loads of fossil fuels then move along to another planet and repeat
Its going to be a real shitter for all you green hippy plonkers if it turns out oils is abiotic. Have you read the report on the nasa climate data and the massive bug in it and how its a lot of rubbish?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_o...
Bio fuels will also use far too much of the worlds crops for fuel and drive food prices through the roof due to lack of space, unless we get loads of genetically engineered super freak foods.

The whole global warming debate is a scam to recoup taxation money which will be lost due to the banning of cigarettes and the revenue they bring in. Consequently people will live longer and it all needs paying for especially with the ever creeping insipid left wing fear of offending anyone and dolling out cash to every lazy or unfortunate bugger on the planet.

Lib dems, officially the ugliest party in westminster

The ginger haired woman on the right with the 'bowl cut' hair do has a rye smile on her face. The white haired dirty old man behind her with the big smile on his face seems to be grabbing his crotch with one hand, and i wonder what his other hand is doing to make her smile.

and yep..Charlie's right....they are
ing ugly...and eerily scary looking too
There is a good reason why the LibDems, Green parties, Red Ken and so forth are disliked here. Simply, rather then hold to facts and find real solutions to pollution they take what they think is the populist approach… blame cars.
Climate change is probably happening even if not irrevocably proven.
Human contribution to the change is a matter of scientific debate. We probably contribute more then zero but far less then what the above politician would have you believe. None of it is irrevocably proven.
Cars are one contributor to pollution… not the single one and not the largest one. But can you really see a politician trying to upset some energy-producing conglomerate?
Much easier to target cars
And politician can do allot about car-generated pollution. My very own private statistics shows that during my morning commuting my car generate 50% more pollution than possible due to congestion. And the solution is not road charging and black boxes in cars. The solution is improved road network – why is almost every north-to-south journey has to use the M25? A network of roads (even toll road) bypassing the M25 will do wonder to S.E. The solution is also to create usable, modern, reliable and reasonably priced public transport (i.e. trains) system so there is a real alternative. I would have been happy to use train instead of cars if I could rely on them, was not crushed against 100s of other people and if it did not take 3 hours because I had to go into London and out again.
Another example - cars in Scandinavia (especially Denmark) are old because new cars are so expensive (with taxation around 200%). Old cars pollute more but the taxation is too good money to give up.
Until the LibDem will call for real solutions and as long as they single out cars as being the big evil, I think that every drivers, motoring web site and motoring magazine should call for the LibDems, Greens, Red Ken and so forth to be banned comes election time
