Just out for a stroll at lunch and saw the usual traffic warden patrolling a layby (!) with double yellows in it, and up the road each direction. Now the lines are worn out in places, no bar at the ends and clearly unenforcable.

So today I decided to ask him why he was ticketing cars that weren't parked illegally and walked him to the end of the lines pointing out the bare bits in between.

He agreed they were no good and told me that he's raised this with the council but was told to just issue the tickets! Apparently their position is to just hope people pay up... In fact he found the whole thing highly amusing.

sounds like the usual story, my colluges and i have full dispensation for parking within the nottingham city council, so we are exempt from parking bays, double/single yellows, etc, so my colleuge parked partly in the end of a parking bay and partly on the double yellows and got a ticket for it, but we are dispenced from both of these places, what a load of crap!!!

Stick a note on all the poor bastards windows telling them to photograph the lines as they are illegal. At least some of them won't get robbed by the council then.

I think he is alluding to the fact that under the decriminalised parking system, councils can do deals with certain businesses and exempt them from parking infringements. This definitely happens in London.

Does the company have to pay for that exemption? Just curious as to how many times you would need to park on double yellows / resident bays for it to be worthwhile.

"highly amusing" isn't the first phrase that comes to my mind. Deceitful, crooked, twisted, illegally extorting money -- they seem more accurate.

Surely a traffic warden has a primary responsibility to uphold the law they he/she is enforcing? Surely he/she can refuse to enforce unlawful regulations and expect to be fully supported by his/her management? I work under a set of "business conduct guidelines", to which I formally accede each year, that ensure that my first responsibility is to lawful and honest business dealings. Why can't I expect the same from officers of the police and/or local council?

...because unlike the majority of human beings, traffic wardens are, in the main, a bunch of crooks.

yes we have to pay a whole £25 for each Dispensation Permit, we get them as we have to do property inspections around the city, but these are also helpful for afternoon drinks at the weekend and also when town is rammed on a saturday and no one can park and they get all p155ed off coz i just dump the car on the DY's

Because they have a special dispensation from the council!!!
