Do you ever use your SLR's screen to look at the image you have taken? ...Or is your 1st impressions on the computers monitor at home?

Reason I ask is that I have a Canon 20D with a 1.8" screen. I'd have always liked for the screen to be bigger, with the 40D now out, it makes the prices of a second hand 30D ever cheaper.

Now this has a 2.5" screen and I think I would find this a useful feature.

So for those with the small screens and those with the big...does size really matter?! hehe

Howdo David

I have the 10D and only ever use the screen as a quick preview to make sure that Ive not cocked up

I think the size of the screen (I believe its 1.8) is fine...wish I had a bigger monitor though frown

Only ever use the screen to check framing.

If you want to use it for anything else then learn how to use & read the histogram as the actual preview image isn't good enough to judge quality.

I can use the Histogram.

Just would like a bigger screen for when I flick through/ zoom in on them/ use the menu's, etc...

Just wondering how many people use it and what for.

I'd recommend the HP w2207. 22" and not a bad price.

yes Recently moved up a notch in terms of screen size. Much easier for seeing if eyes are open or closed, if you're half likely to get to be in focus (especially for opportunistic macros of small bugs) as well as simple framing like straight horizons.

Size matters!

But then everything's bigger on the current camera (from D70 to D2X), can't wait to do a "call THAT a camera" in Crocodile Dundee fashion when I get the chance hehe

I only use it to check that i've not ballsed up the exposure completely. I have the highlight alert switched on, and my only complaint is that the screen's a bit dark in sunlight (on a 1dmk1).

I went from the dinky screen of a 350d to the bigger screen on a 5D and I wouldn't want to go back put it that way! as others have suggested the screen on the back of a camera won't show you a great deal, but it's nice to have a bigger screen. I certainly wouldn't upgrade solely for a bigger screen, but as part of an all-round better package it's a nice thing to have. The viewing angle is bigger on the 5D's screen too (compared to the 350d) iirc.
