Hi,

I've got an E46 330 and theres a strange (and getting annoying) clicking coming from the steering wheel that happens intermittently when I go past center. There doesn't seem to be any correlation with when it happens (low speed, high speed, cancelling the indicators doesn't affect it etc) so I'm a little puzzled.

I was wondering, are there any common faults I should try and investigate first before I go and get ripped off by a garage? It doesn't sound like something loose or something getting caught, just sometimes it clicks, other times it doesn't... hmm

Cheers,
Bigel.

More often than not its caused by a damaged steering slip ring.Takes about 30 mins to replace.
Ps when replacing and fitting a new one the steering must be in the straight ahead position-failure to do this will result in instant damage to the new one as you turn the wheel
