Thinking of getting one, but would be grateful for the views of owners as to their general reliability?

Thanks

Have had one in the family for comming up 3 years. No problems of note. Great car IMO.

Saw your post about the Q7. My take is, and Ive been vocal about it previously, the Q7 (and Cayenne, and X5, and ML) is that, certainly compared to the Disco (and Rangie), the others arent actually that big on the inside, despite their size on the outside.

I, personally, dont see the point in having a big car that isnt big on the inside.

FYI, come January, the Disco 3 will be replaced with another one smile

Thanks FUBAR.

Any pics or details of what the D3 is being replaced with?

Another D3 wink

TBH, current one is a diesel HSE (good engine BTW) but wont be buying an HSE again. Its my dear ole mum's car and she cant work out half the kit on it. Dont even get me started with the voice activation stuff...LoL

Complete waste of gadgetery hehe

I am tempted by one of these....
Fubar - what is your mums car worth now? (am interested in a sellers view as the prices are all over the place online).

From someone who has owned about 6 or so X5's and thought they were great, buy the Disco...brilliant cars, on our second. A few issues with early cars but the later ones seem much much better. 16K now in our 06 and touch wood no problems. If it's the TDV6 I would suggest an ECU upgrade, makes the world of difference.

Whats the mimimum spec to go for on the later Discos?
There are a lot of manual cars with cloth at early 20s at the dealers.
I think I would prefer an auto. Or is the manual ok?
Is there anything else that is a must have eg 'descent control' etc...?

If its 'used' then Id say try and find one with leather. The 7 seat option would be a bonus (for the odd day you want to take everyone out). Wasnt Hill Descent on all models? Bloody great bit of kit that. Ive used it in anger and its amazing what it will go up and down, even on road tyres (I blagged a free half day Land Rover Off Road Experience jobby). Ours has an auto box which is pretty good, but I personally wouldnt object to a manual (not that Ive driven a manual one).

I have no idea. As you say, the prices are all over the place. Being an HSE/fully loaded, and relatively (for a diesel LR) low mileage, Id like to think its worth in the mid to low £20ks trade in value? See some low spec 05 cars with dealers for circa £20k, so

Cost £44k new yikes

LoL, wont be thinking about selling until next year sometime smile

It was one of the early D3s. When we bought it there was very limited colours. IIRC there was silver (which we went for) a couple of greens, white and gold (gold ffs!) and maybe a black?

She wants the next one in a purple yikes So that's the resale price down the pan then paperbag

Drove one today. Only an S spec. Very impressed. Think I will get one. Have posted in general section re finance deals. The finance from LR means I might as well buy a new one as opposed to a yr old one! I think!

I drove a manual and auto today to replace my Disco 2. Very impressed. Don't need too many gadgets so I am going for a nearly new 07 XS in manual. While the Auto felt brilliant I always get pissed off with them so going back to a manual. Seen one advertised at £25k..... Leather would be nice but only comes with the SE and HSE which I don't want.

We'll see how it goes...

Think I wll go for auto. A sept 06 'S' that I think I can get froma dealer for just under 27K. With Sat nav, blue tooth, privacy, fogs, black metallic but cloth seats. Can get seats leathered for 1500 later on.Probably going to get a bank loan rather than a PCP as I want to avoid such deals if I can (they always have a sting).

I see you are also in Derbyshire. I have been to various dealers in North Derbyshire. Prices seems to be pretty 'sticky'.
