Replacing Chim with Sag?
Discussion
I've had my Chimaera for 5 years now and am itching for a Sagaris. A bit of feedback would be much appreciated fellow PH'ers:
Does anyone know the Red Sag for sale at Hexham Horseless Carriages (I live just outside Edinburgh, so this is also handy for me). It looks good on the net but I see two owners, which makes me wonder a little with the ongoing engine reliabilty concerns.
I assume the price is pretty negotaible given the TVR is (saldly) to all intents and purposes dead. The prices seem to vary dramatically on the ads I see. What have you guys paid recently?
Is there much difference between a 2005 & 2006 Sag?
How does the Sag compare to the Chim in terms of driving and reliability? I am considering keeping the Chim as she is mint, but I wonder if I would actually drive it much with a Sag in the Garage.
If the engine did let go, how much would it cost to fix it, and is the fix permanent?
Cheers PH'ers. All advice gratefully received.

Hi - a couple of things in response to your question. First that car was up for sale on here for £2k less than it is now advertised for - look a few ads down. The reg is the same but the dealer has swapped the wheels back to original ones - no bad thing in my book though on the wheels. The previous owner? is listed there and his phone number - why not give him a call....
Second the prices on Sags seem to vary quite a lot between dealer and private sales and the mileage on the car. I don't think that mileage on these cars is an issue personally but some people always want a low miles car and you pay the price for it. As far as engine problems, the 05 cars onwards (which includes all Sags) really seem to be sorted, so I wouldn't worry about all the SP6 doom mongers on here. My Sag is my first TVR and it has been more reliable than my Jeep Cherokee - not sure that is saying much but I have had no problems with it and it is really well put together.
Thirdly, the prices on Sags are actually going up - a dealer I was speaking to yesterday told me this and if you have been watching the classifieds you will have seen this recently. Private sales now always seem to go to dealers and dealers are selling them quickly. The Sagaris is the best TVR ever made and there are less than 150 in the world and even if they do make more, they are going to be expensive and probably have airbags, ABS, Cup Holders etc, etc.
So what are you waiting for? A word of caution though, don't test drive one because if you do, you WILL have to have one

was very noisey at one point being straight through but was in very good condition when it was sold
the 1st owner had it brand new from tvr
You cant have it mate as the deposit is down! It is in need of some improvements, but with the original price at the first point of call being lower I will explain. It needed a clutch, a 12000 service, the front end had stone chips and there was no warranty. Therefore it was cheap for a reason.
Also the diff was a 3:43 ratio which is absolute shite in a Sag or T350. So that needs rectifying too.
It pays to know whats best as far as spec and ensure you get it. Whichever way you go private or dealer there is generally a price difference, however at this juncture in my case the sum total would be the same.

Have a look at http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/218061.htm - looks great. I would have loved a bright orange or bright green as I think the Sag suits those colours even better but it is really nice in blue and does not have the rather dull black interior that many owners go for, which make the cab feel very small.

; they're such different experiences that I can't see one replacing another.
