BMW 530D won't start...

Any ideas why the above?

Its a 1999 car and it turns over fine but no fuel is getting up to the rail, fuel pump fuse appears fine and I can hear the lift pump running albeit extremely quietly.

the car was OK and now just won't start.

I can see no fuel movement in the clear fuel line running from the filter to the main pump

So any ideas?
