radio code for 840ci

can anyone tell me the best way get the code for the radio and how to input ? , battery went dead and now the radio displays the 'wait' message ,

A decent car audio shop should be able to decode it for you. However, it is often written in the front or back of the handbook - and sometimes written on a sticker stuck to the top of the actual unit! You'd need to take it out to look. The 'wait' comes up if you attempt to put in the wrong code more than twice. It will disappear after a time (24 or 48 hrs) or sometimes after a number of engine re-starts - and the word 'code' will appear. The 4 digit code is inputted using the numbers on the front of the head unit.
