Thought I would let you know............

As you know I went to Lambo Birmingham for 4 X tyres for mi Murci. problem is they quoted £2760 and after haggling I hammered them down to £2700!!! - No feeling particularily loved by the dealer I spent my money with, I enquired elsewhere to find I can, and am, currently buying my 4 X tyres for £96?.00 + VAT from Elite wheels.

So I also had the quote for repairing mi baby from the tt who ran over her - see topic elsewhere - which is £15500 ish + VAT and parts only to find that Lambo HW have estimated under £5k??????................ begs the question - why can Lambo Birmingham justify charging SO much for anything I ask for?......... I,m sure I don't have BO, and I really was'nt born yesterday!

Answers on a postcard please !!!

Regards
Neil

Hi Neil,

First off, Im seriously pissed about what happened to the car and it doesn't belong to me !

It does seem a tad odd with a £10k difference, and the tyres to !
I know normal dealers have their own prices anyway but that is pure stupidity !

When I was after a set of tyres for my old Gallardo I naturally called Lambo London first to get an idea on price - I cant remember the exact prices as it was ages ago, but it was about £1900 delivered.

So I called Lambo Manchester (same Group - HR Owen) and they were about £100 less for the same tyres (again, delivered to my home etc) - go figure ? (ok, I appreciate things are a tad cheaper up North - but in fairness the tyres were probably being dispatched from the same place!)

I then called Lambo Wycombe who recommended I call Adams & Page on the same business park as them, to be quoted less than £1k all in (fitted)

So, I called Lambo London back and asked why the difference? (out of curiosity if nothing else)

"Those tyres are a nightmare to get hold of as the manufacturer only runs off so many every few months, so we buy up as much stock as we can each time they are available, which means as the stock runs out elsewhere we can pretty much charge what we want"

I thought this was an odd thing to say to a Customer (due to my Northern accent they must have thought I was completely stupid or something)

Ho hum

Hi Neil,

Not wanting to state the obvious but I'd never buy tyres from a main dealer for that reason alone. If it helps I always get mine from Micheldever tyres who always seem to come up trumps when no-one else has got any and for the best price.

As for your body repair, being in the automotive OEM paint industry its definately worthwhile getting a written spec as to what they are actually doing for their respective 15 and 5K's worth of work. Lamborghini Bham maybe qouting for replacing the entire roof section where as HW may be able to repair your existing roof. Either way ask them what they are doing as with any body work repair it has to be to manufacturers standards for the bodywork warranty to still be valid.

Thanks

Andy.

Bearing in mind I had a car stripped down, painted properly and rebuilt for 3k. The guy works on F40's and various exotica too. I think your paying for prestige badge tax at a gin palace.

I think mi baby will going to Lambo HW in future - still, I can't fall out with Lambo Birmingham as they still owe me a freebie gift from the car purchase back in January this year......... only taken nearly 9 months and still have'nt received it.

Purely from an observational point of view, I still wonder whether owners should, perhaps more than they do, favour the indies over the main dealers. For one, it seems clear they have to work twice as hard to earn the good reputation most of them seem to have, when they shouldn't really have to. But then if an indy did cock up your exotica, would you rush to post here and tell everyone about it which might impact upon your already depreciated resale value down the line?

As was pointed out once in another thread, they are only as good as their last job in the small exotica world. But everyone seems to have good things to say about the indies they have used.

Or is this just an unsolved scooby doo mystery, where the true Lambo main dealer villan is unmasked, to reveal the re-animated corpse of Enzo Ferrari with a sack of £50 notes and a tractor clutch murder weapon? biggrin

I remember the clip of that t*** running over your P&J and he was brought to justice, but hardly more than a slap on the wrist was it?

I saw your P&J at Silverstone last year, but I never got the chance to speak with you.

I don't know what has happened recently, but have you ever thought about taking legal action against him now he has a criminal conviction? I appreciate he won't have shedloads of money but perhaps attachment of earnings (that is, if he has a job!)...so he can't forget this for a long time.

In any case, best of luck.

What really irratates me is why we all tend to think that we will get a better service from the franchised dealer and tend to pay over the odds? I have done it myself with the Porsche and i dont know if its the marble floored(B&Q tiled probably)showroom or the free coffee that puts a spell over us.

I know they are all trying to run a business but it sometimes seems that they are just ripping people off.

Very true!

I used to get my Esprit serviced by Esprit Engineering in Salisbury for less per hour than the cost of getting work done on my *Rover Metro* in London!!!
