Hi guys,

New to this, have read lots and very impressed.

I am interested in the average time taken at dealers and indies for your car to be fixed.

What is the longest wait you have ever had, waiting for your car to be fixed, what model and reasons given if any for delays?

I have heard of some cars been booked in and still not worked on at independents since last year, anyone on this forum in this situation?

5 days as I needed to have a new door mirror sprayed and fitted, then rewired and the sparks was off for a few days.

Usually its drop off and pick up the same day (or next day) when its booked in. Dropping off on spec to have a funny noise (or some such) looked at usually results in a few days wait as they are always busy.

13 weeks for a clutch!

6 weeks for the first one then another 7 weeks to get one built to suit my car as first one did not fit.

Sorted nicely now though!

I waited over 3 months to have a couple of things 'fixed' by a 'reputable' specialist. The main underlying problem was still there when the car got back (they tried kidding me it was something else), and is pretty representative of the service I've had from 3 different specialists.

This is why I will no longer use TVR specialists or dealers, unless my local general mechanic recommends it.

There was a recent thread on the topic, someone waited 4 (or 5, can't remember) months.

My own belief (based only on my own experience) is that many of the specialists sell themselves on some spurious link with the Blackpool factory. Unfortunately, all this means is that they are trained to put things together by rote, they are not necessarily mechanics by nature, ie. detectives with spanners.

I'm not saying there are no good indies out there; just that I have followed PH recommendations and travelled far afield just to be ripped off and treated like an idiot in the mistaken belief that having "TVR" stamped on my book at resale time will make up for the huge amounts of money I've lost being taken for a mug by them during my ownership.

It won't.

Go to a mechanic you trust, TVR or no.

Mod Edit:
PH follows a no naming and shaming policy. That subject can be read up on here:

Ouch Zac

Watchout for the rules of the site re naming and shaming - mods can be quite hot here.

Saying that you're not the first to have an experience with Autocraft - check out sxs http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/profile.asp?m... he had big probs with them.

They also do a engine upgrade for tvr speed sixs which seem to have gone down well with some owners. So you'll probaly get a mixed bag of responses.

Personally, why did you leave it with them for so long??

6 Years and still waiting.

Bought a new Toyota MR2 Roadster in 2001, still awaiting the passenger seat to be replaced under warranty due to some damage on the leather - mind you I did sell the car 3 years ago, but there still haven't got back to me.

In reply to the question of why I left my car there for so long, after they'd shoved my car to the back of the workshop, removed the engine and parked up to six TVR's in front of my car it wasn't exactly possible to just walk in and drive it away. I also lost my driving licence for twelve months for medical reasons, although it's since been reinstated, so I kept going with the project in the hope that the car would be finished by the time I got my licence back. As I live so far away (just outside Wimbledon in SW London) and they were based in Wiltshire it wasn't easy to get up there to see the car, so I didn't have much idea that things were being stolen until it came to fitting it all and I found out that the car had been abandoned and handed over to another company without my permission. I'm determined to get some kind of compensation for what they've done - that's why I was asking if any of their other victims would be prepared to help me build a case against them by backing up my story with accounts of what that company have also done to their cars. If anybody is prepared to help out in this way could they please send me an e-mail to discuss the matter.

Thanks

Zac

I wouldn't be at all surprised going from my experience. I like the subtlety hehe

and working through the night really doesn't impress me as an organised set up.

On the other hand things can be quick sometimes. My T350 always gets serviced in a day, 12k service in 2 days (they have to let the engine cool to set the tappets). Clutch was also completely changed in a day.

First time I blew the headgasket it took 6 weeks to remove engine, send to Blackpool, get it back, put back in car etc. Second time (due to a bad repair the first time) it took a week. Yes, they removed the engine, sent it to Blackpool on a pallet, fixed it (TVR must have turned it around within a day), sent it back on a pallet and reinstalled it/set up etc. My dealer says it needs 2 days to put the engine back in and set it all up. I was pleasantly surprised by that one, but I'd rather it hadn't happened at all (ruined a day at Oulton Park).

My problem is I'm usually not able to pick the car up for 2-3 days so being speedy makes no difference.

Alice, why dont you just go and pick your car up then, and if you drink the coffee then you will be two faced just like the other ALice in Wonderland character, it could also do something else to you
