How is it replaced, do you have to remove the soft top complete or just the pvc trim between the carpet and top. How easy a job is it, I guess everything is well glued in place. Pitty leaks/sun seem to play havoc on this carpet.

If you just mean the parcel shelf area then you'd have to lift the rear leather hoop that ho;ds the roof down, 3 allen screws and 2 pozi drives ( well on my 96 Griff anyhow ). Its glued down so that would haev to be cleaned of the Fibre glass before re sticking.
Theres a few companies that do carpetting listed in the links on The Griffith Pages that may be able to help.

Having just completely re-carpeted my 500 I can confirm that the soft top and its back rail need to be removed to do the job. Just the three allen set screws and two posidrive for the back rail and two large allen set screws for the main hood hoop. You will also need to disconnect the interior light cable from its plug/socket in the void under the velcro fixed carpet around the near-side "B" post. You may have to drill a hole in the fibre glass inner wing to pull the plug through. Having removed your soft top your troubles are only just beginning... You may have a problem colour matching your existing carpet.

Instead of plush wilton that soon rots and stinks I choose a fully synthetic carpet from Coverdale hopefully it will prove more successful.

To re carpet the complete car was a major task, especially as I chose to cut and fit everything from the roll. Another problem is getting the carpet edges bound in PVC, a normal sewing machine will not cope and even my local upholsterer said it is an awful struggle to get it looking decent. So to sum up if you can buy ready made bound carpets you will save an awful lot of time and hassle. Best of luck!

Hi Paul, What was the cost of the carpet and also the cost of the PVC edging. Thinking of having my Griff recarpeted!

Phil,

Have a look at: http://www.coverdalecarpets.com/

Coverdale were first class, sent by return of post and most helpful.

I chose the Polypropylene Blenheim range, it feels a bit flimsy compared to the original Wilton but hopefully will last a bit longer and not stink when it gets damp. Its not a job to be taken lightly it has taken weeks (on and off), but I was however also changing the dash panels to stainless which took a fair time. I believe Coverdale sell the Griffith carpets ready made up all bound and ready to fit but they were unsure if it fitted my 96 car so I opted for the roll.
On reflection and after all the hassle I would now opt for the made up option, around £280 I believe including bound edges.
I ordered 11 square metres of carpet: £90, to leave some spare and allow for mistakes and needed 25 metres of PVC binding £13. Matching cotton, £7. Their aerosol glue is excellent and I used 6 cans £16, dont bother with the solvent cleaner I found it useless, white spirit is far more effective. I also bought some heel mats and under felt. Total with VAT about £180. To this my upholsterer charged £50 for sewing the edges (very reasonable as an awful fiddly job) I am quite pleased with the finished result but you need to be careful the pieces are positioned accurately before the glue takes hold as if you try moving them after, the tufts pull through the backing.
Need any more info let me know.
Best of luck
Paul
